Problem with pickups on MexiStrat

I have an 8 year old MexiStrat and when I try to switch between pick ups there is a lot of static and sometimes the pickup doesn't work, (cuts in and out). IS this a problem with my pickups or the selector, is it something that I could fix myself. Thanks for any help.

contacts !

The switch contacts are dirty. Pickup a can of contact cleaner at radioshack, and spray the contacts. If the switch is one that is enclosed, you can just spray through the slot in pickguard.
