I bought this VF-16 a few months back. I've had no problems with it until a few nights back. After it's been on for 20-30 minutes it starts to make this crackling noise and starts to skip like a scratched record. At that point it no longer records, and though the timer continues unabated, the track just keeps skipping. If I let it sit for a few minutes, it will work again for a little while, but then start up again. Any idea why? It has an upgraded 40 gig HD. After it freezes, if I try to select a different program, a window pops up that says
"disk format". I normally turn it off at that point. Will formatting my HD fix this or do you think I have something internally wrong? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the tip. Looks like a good site, I'll check it out.

In addition to the above:
make sure that the drive cable is fully 'home'.
I think a format should help (there is no defrag on the VF16 and I think the file system gets a little untidy over time), but you will lose all your work so backup first.

If and when you do the format don't do the quick format use the other option (don't remember what it's called). And don't plane on using the unit for awhile. It may take up 12 hours to format.
