I seem to have a problem with my cubase sx. When I play midi, the signal (sound) comes later than when I play it. How can I fix this problem. My OS is windows2000. Ron
and search for midi latency, found a bunch of stuff having mostly to do with sound card/interface settings and/or ASIO drivers.
I'm having the same problem you are (1-2 second delay) but I devised a little workaround for it because its not bothering me all that much.
I'm using an Alesis QS 8.1 Synth into an M-Audio Firewire 410 interface to the computer.
Basically what I did was make the midi track and not assign the VST (Sampletank, etc.) to the midi track, so when I record the midi track, there is data being recorded but no sound output through the phones.
I then plug my keyboard into the interface as if I was doing a straight audio track and play an onboard synth sound (usually some sort of piano)- voila, zero latency monitoring of the track notes being recorded, and the monitoring sound doesn't get recorded (obviously, its a midi track). You then apply your softsynth sound to the midi track via VST.
Quick and dirty fix, and only works if you have onboard patches on your midi controller.
First ensure you have the asio driver installed for your sound card if it has one.
Go to device setup at the bottom of the device menu and select vst multi track. Select the asio driver and reduce the latency to something more acceptable.
