Problem with Alesis io 26, Cubase le and Mac G5

Hello all,
I recently purchased an Alesis io 26 and loaded the Cubse le onto my Mac G5. The sound window under preferences reads the Alesis driver and input so the Mac sees the io. The problem is when I plug a mic or instrument cable into the box, the box itself does not register on the LED 'metering ladder' section. Here's the rub, if I unplug the firewire, I get the metering ladder triggering when I use the mic or instrument. However, when I go back into the firewire, the box doesn't register sound.

Since I don't know Cubase LE program, I'm wondering if its a software issue and my lack of experience with it? Or, is the box messed up? I took one back already because there was no sound registering on the meters at all. I am starting to wonder if its all "Operator Error" or is the box messed up. Anyone with advice, I greatly appreciate it... this is for my home projects... low end stuff but this Alesis got good reviews... I'm really bummed...

Thanks and take care,
Michael

I don't have LE, but I do have SE3, SX3 and Studio4, and in all of them it is a similar setup vor your VST connections (inputs/outputs)

Did you do this:

Connect Alesis
Start Cubase
Click the Devices tab
Click on VST Connections
Adjust inputs/outputs accordingly

You should see the different inputs of the Alesis listed in the drop down menu on the right.

Hope this helps.

Pete

I'm using one with a G4 and Logic without any problems. If you have the IO plugged in and are sending a mic signal you should see the signal LED's move.

Hey, Michael. Have you tried contacting Alesis's customer support? They're pretty awesome in my experience.

Also, a quick check of the Alesis site (http://www.alesis.com/index.php?id=58,92,0,0,1,0) shows that they have a new driver and firmware. Did you download it?

Let us know how it goes! I'm really interested in this piece, too. (I'm between this and a MOTU896HD. The Alesis seems to slay it in every way.) The reviews I've read on the Alesis piece so far are generally really positive, so your experience may prove to be an interesting counterbalance.
