Probably a stupid question, but...

Can I run a firepod into a Digi 002?

I've currently got a Firepod and I want more inputs so I can record a big drum kit, and I'd like to get a control surface and the Digi 002 looks great, but I don't know if I could sort of "daisy chain" the firepod into the 002. There would probably be some sort of issue with the drivers...

Also, how does the Digi 002 compare to the Tascam FW1884? Which one would be a wiser purchase?

I have actually run the analog outputs of a firepod into the analog inputs of a digi002. I am sure there is a clock issue with this, but the firepod does operate as an analog piece, that is, it doesn't have to be plugged into the firewire port in order to work. The audio will pass through.

I am also curious about the latency. I wonder if there is an analog to digital conversion that occurs even to pass the audio through..I didn't notice anything though.

but either way, i have done it before and i had positive results. I like the pres on the firepod.

I'm pretty sure there's no ADA conversion going on when you go straight to the analog outs of the firepod

That would work... but my goal was to get 12 XLR inputs total. So if I ran it like that I could have 8 XLR's going into the Digi as opposed to the Digi's 4 XLR inputs. It would be a benefit but not a 12 XLR input benefit...

I'll probably just get another firepod, they are super cheap now.

Would I be able to get the 4 xlr inputs on the digi 002 and the 8 xlr inputs on the firepod if I hooked the firepod into the digi's s/pdif in and out?

EDIT: I answered my own question, the s/pdif would only get me 2 more inputs... but how would that work? Would the first 2 inputs on the firepod be the ones the digi recognizes via s/pdif? if thats the case I can use 4 of the remaining inputs and put those into the analog in's on the digi? Correct me if I'm wrong...
