Seeing as the AKG D112 is made for picking up bass drums, how would it be for picking up a very deep bass guitar?

No, it's not that I need to record it. I was just wondering, because I didn't know if there were any other good uses for the mic other thank for bass drum.

Just because its a kick mic doesn't mean you can't throw it on anything you like. Try it on everything man, toms, guitar cab, you name it, try it and then let us know what it works best at.

I knew a guy who used a D112 to mic a string bass in a live situation.
Not sure how it sounded as I was also playing at the time.

The D112 was designed for upright bass, it just happens to work on kick drums. You can use it for guitar, I've tried it and didn't like it. You have to remember that a heavy guitar sounds power is an octave or two above the fundamental frequency of the note being played. Even when the guitars are tuned way down, that puts the heavyness in the 100hz to 200hz range. The heaviness of a kick is in the 50hz to 100hz range.

The D112 is great on bass, I don't like it much on guitar. It doesn't pick up a lot of what makes guitars sound good.
