Dear Anyone.

Got M-Audio 2496 and a comp. with plenty of spec. to run everything. I'm using a notation package, QSE Elite, to write my music on, and a load of plugins. Thing is, I can't make ASIO work with the soundcard.

If I select the ASIO setting from SETUP in my notation package, I get nothing. Zero sound. Zero lights on the soundcard's monitoring panel. If I select the Direct Sound Driver option my notation program immediately crashes, as in jumps off a virtual cliff. If I just use ASIO4ALL, soundcard ASIO turned off, the sounds play - but they never STOP playing. Note on works, not off-forget it. MP3s and everything play fine (inc. streaming video etc. All play fine. This prob's entirely down to notation-package-meets-soundcard.)

Anyone know, or have an idea, what's going on?

Yours hopefully

Chris.

okay

you probably already know this but did you set your inputs and outputs in your DAW to sync with your interface? FYI some soundcards dont support ASIO....Google your soundcard specs

A basic question: have you installed the correct drivers for your 2496? You can't rely on the disc that came with the card - go to m-audio's site and download/install the correct driver for your OS if you haven't done so already.

Yep - all newest drivers.

Dear Futuredays.

I've got all the latest drivers for my M-Audio. There IS an M-Audio version of ASIO, but whenever I chose it I got no noise out of it so I thought I'd try ASIO4ALL. It works, inasmuch as, like I said in my original posts, I get sound coming out. Thing is, the sounds never stop. They all get stuck. It's as though they're getting the note on commands, but not the note off commands. If I use a 'play-DLL-as-app' program to play the plug-ins as standalones, they play their notes fine, start and stop. I think - though I'm willing to be told otherwise, that's because they're playing in the Windows environment (on the desktop, without my notation program on) and that doesn't use ASIO. Am I right in thinking that? Anyway, the little green ASIO4ALL button isn't appearing in the tray near the clock when they're playing in standalone mode.

It purely seems to be when I'm using music software. They start but don't stop in both Cubase and QSE. I've imported a WAV into Cubase (you can't do WAVs in QSE) and that sounds fine, so wavefiles are playing back no problem - they start and stop. Why I did that is because I know sample based programs are basically loads of tiny wave files, so I was interested to see if playing an ordinary wavefile worked. Ordinary one, fine. The tiny loops in sampler programs (Sampletank etc.) never stop.

Everything's properly installed, by which I mean it's all legit software (cost me a wagepacket, did Sampletank!) and it all WAS working with my old soundcard, a Soundblaster Live, which I no longer have (when I bought the new comp'n'card, I flogged the old computer with the old card.) It just doesn't seem to like the new card - unless there's something else going on I don't know about - and I don't understand why M-Audio ASIO doesn't make any noise. I've read via Google about people on other sites having probs. with M-Audio Asio but I never found any resolved posts on the subject.

Wish I hadn't installed the newest drivers, just so I could say 'Ah, Great Answer, That's what I needed to do!!' But I have, so I can't say that.

Darned annoying.

Yours respectfully

Chris.
