Lots of pros use ProTools LE with Digi 001 or 002 setups. The choice between HD and LE depends in part on how many channels of I/O you need, and whether you want to use the TDM/HD plugins. If you've got a lot of hardware outboard and/or non-TDM plugins, and don't need mega track counts, then LE works fine.

But whatever

I guess if you like protools that bad get it. Yet cubase or logic, dp is much cheaper, if you just want to run soft synths and soft plugs. The only reason I see for protools is going all the way, ie. a TDM system with a mix board and tons of cards.

But what is truely the point sorry, the name brand recognition? Apogee converters kick the digidesign converters, and then TDM effects plugins blow ass compared to a tc M2000 or a eventide orville, or perhaps a lexicon pc 91 or 81. The filters for TDM systems are really good, like the MC DSP stuff, I actually met the guy who codes it in binary, lives in the bay area. At the same time, all these plugins have no character. I run some audio through a stupid moogerfooger low pass filter pedal and it has more flavor then any plugin filter I have even tried.

I think the point is more about PT being an almost universally accepted format than brand name recognition. I use ProTools simply because I need to be able to open and record to PT session files.

So there are instances when there is no point to going "all the way" with it. I don't need HD with all the bells and whistles, that would be a terrible waste of money for me. So I'm very glad for LE, it's a good move on Digi's part to have the smaller versions for people like me.

However, my recording engineer does have an HD system. But his situation is totally different, he records a lot of sessions with it and his system paid for itself within months I believe, from the rental fees he got for it. In other words, when he records a session he gets paid as the engineer or PT operator, and also charges a rental fee for the use of his system. So in cases like that, the bigger system makes a lot of sense.

As far as plugins and whether one likes them or not, that is a more universal issue that has nothing to do with any individual platform. I personally much prefer hardware, although I have a bought a few carefully selected plugins recently. I am certainly a hardware person though!

you're comparing Apogee's converters to Digidesign's??? Guess what...Digi doesn't concentrate all their effort on their converters. And apogee, makes dedicated converters...hmmm, i wonder who might be better. I've never heard of one overall company that makes a kick ass hardware unit, kick ass preamps, kick ass converters and kick ass software all in one.
And the TDM plugins don't have anything to do with Digi but rather depends on the company you buy them from. The waves plugins are pretty damn cool though.

is the digi 002 compatable with logic 7

im using two forms of software......i understand that protools is the industry standard.....but Logic kicks ass. and instead of having two interfaces...i figured i go with the digi...but for some reason...in logic, i only can use one input.......what the hell is that all about

I don't know, but it's scaring the crap out of me. I'm planning on switching to using a Digi 002R with Digital Performer. It would not be a good thing if the hardware isn't 100% compatible.

There seems to be a lot of complaints with Logic 7 having problems and being buggy. Have you tried Logic 6 with the Digi 002?

Suggestions>?

I am piecing together my production studio. i have a roland MV-8000 production sequencer, Yamaha motif es8...Mac powerbook...

Trying to make a decision on DAW and software--i am thinking about running a pro tools setup (digi 002 w/ LE software)
-or-
Yamaha 01x w/ logic pro 7 software...

Any suggestions/coments/warnings...ideas?
Thank you

i have a PT LE set up and i really like it. The Pro Tools layout is simple and user friendly and my digidesign hardware sounds great.

I think the users of other software are a little pissed that Pro Tools is the professional standard and their's isnt it.

homerecording.com doesnt even have a Pro Tools LE forum but forums for software that i never even heard of (what's n-track?) please explain that.
