My current setup consist of a Digi 003 Rack, Digital MPA, and Berhinger ADA8000.
Currently, I am running the Digital MPA as the Master Clock and I sending the clock signal out through SPDIF as well as the SPDIF L/R channels. The SPDIF Cable connects directly to the Digi 003 Rack, Then I am using Lightpipe to connect to the Berhinger ADA8000.

My question is...Is this the best way to do this? Or should I use the word clock cables coming out of the MPA and connect that to the 003. Or should I set the Digi 003 as the master and Word clock cable it to the mpa and light pipe to the ADA8000?

Thanks guys and gals!

Ideally, you want your clock to be as close as possible to the converts, in terms of signal chain. I would suggest that there is probably very little difference in the clocks between the MPA and the 003 - with the 003 probably coming off slightly better. The problem with going MPA-->003-->ADA is that you're actually effectively using 2 clocks - the clocking signal actually gets re-clocked thru a PLL as it hits the 003.

I would suggest using the 003 has the master and using a star-shaped distribution system rather than daisy chaining. And use the external wordclock inputs as much as possible! Wordclock thru BNC is much less likely to suffer jitter in medium-length cable runs than down AES...

Just making sure I understand, you are recommending using the World Clock Coax cable

and to Take the Digi 003 Word Clock output and connect to MPA Word Clock In, Then take the MPA Word Clock out and connect to ADA Word Clock in, then Connect ADA Word Clock out and connect to Digi 003 Word Clock in?

Not quite.

Get a T-connector for your WC output (BNC/coax) on the 003r - if you are unsure of what this is here is one. Then connect one end of it to your MPA and the other end of it to the Beri.

Wow the ADA8000 has a word clock connection! It's just gone up in my book!

That's what I thought :D

I was quite surprised, which is why I had initially suggest clocking of embedded ADAT:P

ADA8000 sounds very close to the Presonus. I bet you couldn't tell them apart if the limiter on the famous presonus wasn't used.

Thanks a bunch!

I'll check out that stuff

Is the Coax cable just like the coax that is used on tvs?

I'm gonna make an assumption that it's a 75ohm cable.

The connectors are on BNC and yeah as far as I know it would be the same as the equivalent video cables (not those with the RCA fittings).

Digi 003 Sync Problem with Rosetta 800

I just bought a Rossetta 800 and I traying to sync it with the Digi 003, using the Rosetta as Master World Clock, but I only connect 1 BNC cable from the WC out of the Rosetta to the WC in od the Digi 003. I need to connect another cable to make a loop conecttion..?? because with 1 cable I having a lot of jitters.

Thanks.

Hey ...been useing the rosetta 800 with 003 for about a year have bnc from rosetta word clock out to word clock in on 003. Also one toslink cable from rosetta to 003 (focusrite 828 into rosetta via 25 pin connector) clock source set to word clock in protools. 8 drum mics working (salesman's wiring schematic) So been playing with(learning) protools, waves. eq,comp.dynamics etc.. and Reason...(pushing buttons). Got logic pro 9 and trying to get 8 mics from focusrite thru rosetta into logic session with 003(core audio). Long story short it seems that the word clock BNC cable is not needed (its used if your useing an external clock like big ben) and that the 003 gets word clock from toslink wire and protools clock source should be set to optical. So I think it's time to start recording mics and stop pressing buttons. I have it rewired the second way described. If there's a problem I'll let you know. If someone see's a problem with this wiring, please let me know. ALSO, I've been setting the rosetta and pro tools to 44.1k. I've been thinking about setting the system up for 48k. In reading around trying to find the proper way to wire the rosetta to the 003, I read that the rate should be set at 44.1 and left alone.

Any thoughts, please let me know.
thanks
