Why you gotta be so mean?
First time protools user sorry. I bought a used mbox (original) and I installed the protools 7.3 it came with on my xp pc. But my main pc if vista, which won't run 7.3, so I need at least 7.4 correct? But there is a upgrade on musiciansfriend that is around $150 to upgrade to protools le 8. Do I just need this, or willl it not work because I couldn't get 7.3 installed at all. What would I need to get le 7.4/8? Thanks. And I cannot install xp, but I wish.

There is no ilok key required or anything? Thanks.

ya man... i just load pro tools LE 8 on my computer this weekend... i had the same question about a week ago... all you have to do is pop the disk in and enter the product activation code on digidesign.com.... they will in turn give you a code that will unlock you pro tools... you dont need an old version... no iloks required...

IF you're a student, you can get 1/2 off discount at sweetwater.

Search "protools academic"

Just throwing that out there, could save you some bucks!

That's intented for educational facilities, not students. I don't know that you'd manage to get away with that...

Yeah, I got the downloadable version. It took about 4 hours to download, but it work great. Still getting use to it vs cubase. But thanks for all the help.

I HAD THIS QUESTION A WEEK AGO WHEN I GOT THE UPGRADE...

you dont need the old version... all you need is the upgrade... load it and put in the activation code that digidesign website gives you... and rock on... it wont ask you for the old version...

It totally works actually. My friend bought an Mbox 2. Just had to show a copy of his student ID.

Hey dudes. I have a similar problem. Hoping someone can help me.

I've been a pc dude ever since setting eyes on a computer and I'm switching to a macbook pro 2009. I have the mbox2 w/LE 7.0. I have emailed the guys at digidesign and they basically said that I have to upgrade to 8.0 to run in OSX 10.5.

Are they just trying to make me spend $160 USD or is there a way around this? Also, will all my recordings/plugins etc in 7.0 work in 8.0?

I'm new to forums and also not very computer savvy so any help would be much appreciated! Cheers dude's

There is no way around it, you need to upgrade to Pro Tools 8 (or indeed 7.4 which isn't really available anymore) in order to run Pro Tools on OS10.5.

Your projects will certainly work. What plugins do you have?

Thanks alot pezking. Thats rad! Guess I have to spend some more money I don't have.

Plugins: Ezdrummer/DFH, Korg Legacy Collection, Guitar Rig 2, Guru and whatever ones came with my mbox2 package (which I haven't even used......yet:).

To hear them in action just check out my myspace pages.
Oneirodynia is just me and Late Night Rose is me doing all music/mixing and vocals are done by a buddy of mine back in new zealand. Let me know if you like dude!

Thanks again man. This is one fine community right here!!!

I did this a couple of years ago, but "ProTools Academic" has since been discontinued for individual students.
