I know I'm oudated here but I'm running pro audio 9 on the system below and I can't get the majority of the FX1, Fx2, Fx3 effects to work in real time or written. When I try applying them in the Aux effects I get "Out Of Memory" message. I also can't get the stretch audio function to work. According to the box I have more than enough recommended CPU power. I also have shut down all other programs as well.

Has anybody had this program and had similar problems? and what other recording/editing program would you recommend for my system?

Hewlett Packard Pavillion 533mghz, 384mg RAM, Pentium 3
Delta 44 Sound Card

I personally haven't used PA9, however, a couple of things... Which windows are you running? How much memory/virtual memory do you have available with PA9 open with the song loaded but not playing?

I don't know if this is up the right track, but it is worth a try,

Sorry, Windows 98. Virtual Memory is managed by windows, I have only 2.2 gigs of hard drive space left. Could the little hd space be the prob?

As I said, I'm not 100% sure... are you only running 1 HDD?

Also, how many tracks are we talking about here?

I don't think it's # of tracks, Ive tried it on a brand new file. My computer is very "Multi Purpose" and has 1 HD. Are you suggesting It would be better to install a slave HD and run cakewalk from that? I was checking through other posts, someone sad to modify the cache size in the Aud.ini from 20mb to around 500, I did that so I might go play with it now.

I'd wait to get confirmation from others, but a slave drive would make a big difference. Couple of things to think of:

When the disk get's close to full, because you have copied/moved/deleted files, the disk has become fragmented, and it takes longer for the head to write compared to an empty disk, ie writing continously vs a bit here and a bit there.

Also, using just one disk where windows and the audio data is kept, windows will be accessing the disk and any other programs you have running in the background. This may be where this error is coming up, but as I said, wait til a previous user of PA9 can confirm it.

Ok, I downloaded the patch and that didn't help either. I have Audio FX1, FX2 and FX3 installed. FX2 and FX3 effects work, FX1 dynamic processor works, but not the reverb, delay, chorus etc..
I still get "out of memory" alert when trying to use them in real time, they don't do anything when I click on them if trying to process audio in "step" time.

It could be that PA9 isn't really happy with real-time effects at all.

You can apply them directly to the clip, right?

One thing I would be really concerned with is the amount of space that is left on your hard drive...can you clean some files up and run the normal maintanance on your harddrive?

I run defrag quite often and I have 35Gig left on my hard drive...

The memory messages are a warning that the Hard drive is full or the RAM is insufficient, I do not think it is RAM...

One thing I noticed is that your processor is an older version, though acceptable by PA9 standards, but that is a minimum so there is a possiblity that data is being written to the hard drive to make up for the slow processing speed...kind of a temporary place, and when that happens that could cause a problem.

Anyway I am not a computer geek, but I would make some more room on that Hard drive...by the way Hard drive are the number one failure points in a computer and the estimate life span of those are 1 to 3 years...what I am saying if you are using a Hard Drive that is older than a couple of years you may be living on borrowed time and may want to back up you music because when they crash many times the data is unrecoverable...just something to think about...

I have no problems running any effects on my computer and when I apply them, PA9 changes the sound within a second...
