The tune is " I Love My Jesus (He Lives)" and it's a John Lee Hooker style Boggie. Download it or Stream it here:

It was recorded "Live" (Details up in the Tascam Forum) We already know the overall volume needs to come up so CRANK It!

Hope ya enjoy it. Comments are welcome.

I like the groove and sounds like the bass and drums are pretty tight together. The guitars didn't do it for me sound wise and lead wise. Also it's more like you are saying the words rather then singing them so there's not much melody. May be it's the style of this tune but it seemed wierd to me.

Also defenatly a live type song at almost 6 min that groove without any breaks got me panting :)

Just some thoughts
cheers

Hmmmm.....very muddy. Sounds like there's a wet blanket over the speakers. Lord lord lord, there are a few intonation problems on the vocals. Also the lead is a bit stiff.
One chord songs can work but there's just not enough to hold my attention here musicly speaking.

To quickly defend you (not that you need it) You stated that this is a Boogie tune. Therefore, comments about one chord songs and talking instead of singing struck me as funny. It's a BOOGIE Tune!!

Anyway, I agree that the mix is quite muddy. Could be for alot of reasons i.e. the recording medium, mp3 compression....... . This did lend a chance for me to listen with a subtler ear than I normally utilize or display. I thought the git, the driving force of the boogie, very decently played but took a back seat in the mix. This is wrong IMO. That sucker should be in your face for the full six min's. Spatially, what I heard was kick drum closest, vox a little behind that, then git and bass. I would change that to git first. The vox might do well to get more into the song on a performance level as well. The vox and git should lay down the law as far as intensity and dynamics go on this song, and it didn't happen. Please don't take these words to equal a negative responce, I dug the tune alot. It could be pumping and barstomping with the existant tracks but, I think with a remix and some testifying and/or screaming in the vocals, it could be kick some bold Boogie ass.

Hope I wasn't too forthright in my comments. I liked the tune alot. Wish I could play Boogie.

Theron.

Fed;

Glad that you liked the groove cause that's what Boogie is all about, bro.

Jeff did the vocals in the style of John Lee Hooker and yes they are supposed to be spoken in this style. Jeff is a purist when it comes to Blues and he was following in Hooker's footsteps the best that he could. As far as the leads go Jeff did solo 1 and 3 and again, the purist came out. I did solo 2. I started out with the standard fare of no string bending and then let loose as much as I could and not have Jeff looking at me with that "It sounds like John Lee Hooker meets AC/DC look. :D Oh well, I'm a 70's relic and pleased with it.

Man, John Lee Hooker was known as "The Boogie Man." If listening for 6 minutes has ya panting, Get up and let go and BOOGIE!

Thanks for the comments, FED

Mr. Track Rat,

I agree that it's muddy and as I said before, the overall volume needs to come up. This is definately NOT the final mix and I believe that Jeff may have over compressed the song well before the volume was brought to where it was supposed to be. He also cut the highs off the drum tracks because he felt that Sharon got a little wild with the cymbals. We are just getting started in recording and mistakes will be made. Thank God that we still have the unaltered original tracks .

Your opinion is one that I respect so any suggestions are appriciated.

Thanks, Track Rat.

Hey you know that the mix on this one needs some work, but I think it's got some definite potential once is brought and sparkleyed up. I think it's a cool style, and I think the bass and drums work really well together, though some of the cymbals sound flat, prolly just a result of the whole mix being a bit muffled. I also agree that the intonation is a bit off, but that could be cause the vocals come through the clearest. In any event I'd like to hear the final mix, let us know!!!!

Recording quality aside (mud mud mud), I really like th whole rhythm section. I treally sits together tight, and the guitar is killer.
Obviously, I don't really connect to Christian music ;) but just musically speaking, I really like it.

I appriciate your comments Bro.

I have found the cymbals sound Flat because Jeffro thought that Sharon got a little "wild" on them at times and cut the Highs on the Drum Channel. :( He has also been compressing each bounce to and from the CD machine. :(

So, Basically it's back to the basic tracks on this one. I'll repost when it's done.

Thanks!
