I'm about to start on our press kit and i'm debating how I want to do it. I'm a huge fan a simplicity and getting straight to the point.. however in this market you need to stand out of the pile of press kits and demo's. There's a label in particular I'd like to make an impression on but we'll take what we can get obviously. So i'm thinking of coming up with some unique packaging ideas.. something that can't be ignored... or do you think a indie label would see something like this as a cheap gimmik and brush it off.. (it will be tastefully done with lots of thought put into it obviously)

I'm torn because although i'd rather send them a clean simple press kit I really want them to take a listen (we'd fit in nicely with some of their bands)

I assume that means crisp $100 bills.:D:D

Simple is always good. Keep in mind that most labels do not accept unsolicited material. Actually, many CANT accept it. Too many lawsuits and it is not worth it for them.

SO, before you send blindly to labels, I suggest contacting them first. A simple email should work. If you are just going to send one without their knowledge, the odds it ends up in the trash are incredibly high.

If they ARE aware it is coming, then simple and pro should work. Most people arent going to fall for gimmicks, this is money we are talking about.:D

simple, but you've gotta give them more than a piece of paper, something that cant be put in a stack and never looked at again.
