im looking at buying a second hand presonus firestation, or a brand new m-audio delta 1010lt

anyone have any opinions they can offer me as to which one is the better unit sonically?

thanks

I wouldn't worry about which one sounds better. Rather, which one meets your needs better, and offers the features, ins/out, etc. that will work better with your current setup? Consider things like number of ins/outs, balanced versus unbalanced connection, etc. etc. etc. And, of course, cost/budget always has to be a consideration.

At that level, there's probably not going to be a significant enough difference between the two in terms of sound quality.
.

I'd also like to add that you should make sure the Firestation will work with your setup. If you can't test it out first, make sure you can get a full refund. I wrestled with one a while back for a couple of weeks before I realized it wasn't going to happen, no it was not pleasant, luckily I was able to get my money back.

ok thanks for your input, i passed on the presonus (it was going for too much) and i've never used m-audio gear before so it's looking like a toss-up between the echo audiofire 8 and the layla 3G now....

Ditto...I wouldn't toss out the Delta card just yet. Do a search here and see how many positive review you get. The 1010LT is a huge bargain...for a bit more you can get the 1010 which has the breakout box.

Can't/won't say better since I only have Delta1010 cards (2 each). Never had a problem and the support responses have been pretty good (I had questions which turned out to be operator error) and I think you'll find them to be a real bargain. It's a popular choice here on the boards.

ok now ive been tempted by another choice , its between the audiofire 8 and the e-mu 1820/1820M (don't even know the difference between the two)

now my head is really starting to spin

Both the Echo and the EMU are great-sounding cards. With an Echo, you'd also have the advantage of more stable drivers, user-friendliness, and far greater customer support.

i think im going to go with the echo audiofire 8 then, the e-mu has those great convertors which are tempting but there are pci cards involved, i don't like the half rack case either and the reviews of driver headaches are enough to put me off

Just for the record, I have never had a driver issue with myy 1010lt and I update everytime a new one comes out.

I've had one of my computers hooked up with a 1010lt for a couple years now and it's great.
