Hey everyone. Im using a presonus firepod with cubase LE. I bought a RNC the other day. Trying to use it as a send whilst mixing the individual tracks.
im taking the line 1 out (at the back of the module) putting it through the RNC then back into the firepod using the line 1 input, also at the back. From what I can gather this seems to be sending the the whole mix (or just the left side of it). this doesnt bother me, I can solo everything I want to compress, but when Im using the compressor I can still hear the original guitar as well as the one going through the compressor. This makes it really difficult to get a good compression setting without recording the compressed version listening to it and changing the settings on the RNC. Is there anything I can do to make the original guitar non audible but still let it go to the compressor? Like an insert point on a mixing desk.

cheers

is it a stupid question, have i worded it badly or does no-one know the answer?

OK, after reading it several times I think I might know what you want to do. 1st off, I'm assuming that your speakers are hooked up to the main outs? Or you are using headphones? Either way, you have to remember that ouput 1 and 2 are the same as the main outs and cue outs and headphone outs. So anything sent out of 1 or 2 will be heard on those channels as well.

What I would do is send that guitar track out mono out of like channel 7 or something, then back into to any input. Turn the input monitoring on if your wanting to hear it in real time and you should be good to go. That would separate that guitar from the rest of the mix. Try that and see what you come up with. I'm not familiar with Cubase, but you should be able to do something like this in it.
