Ok, i am looking at purchasing a PreSonus Firebox 24-bit/96khz firewire recording interface. I have been reading crap tons of articles and watching every video i can find about the thing, and i have been getting very mixed reviews. Does anyone have, or has any one used this before? I am currently running Garageband (soon updating to logic) on a Mac OS X, version 10.6.2, 2.13 GHz Intel Core 2 duo, with 2 gigs of ram. Will this work for me?

Much love, Drew

I have had one for a few years. Been solid for me. Ok results. Stable. I use it as just the interface with my preamp these days. It's good for what it is. You can have good fun with it. This is my experience anyway...obviously this is the internet so opinions are all over the shop.

i have the firestudio project and all of the presonus stuff works fine on mac's

there are still some issues with pc firewire compatibility though. i have had my project for about 6 months and its great! super quite pre amps, software mixer (lets you monitor with no latency) and you get cubase and a bunch of plugins. i run mine on an imac with just 1gb of ram and have recorded 4 tracks all at once no problem (1 track using guitar rig plugin)

personally i would save that little more cash and get the fp10 or the project, loads more inputs/routing

good luck and have fun

I use one quite a lot and on both a laptop and PC, works fine for me and recorded 4 tracks at once to laptop at a gig, no problems, sounds great.

Two things that bug me,

Need external power supply when using with laptop (not a firebox problem but a computer problem due to not having powered firewire on laptop).

Cannot daisy chain multiple units for more channels, this would have been nice so you could add more later.

Cheers

Alan.
