presonus firebox headphone output mayhem + tight schedule = :(

hello all,

i purchased a presonus firebox a couple of days ago... everything seems to be working great except for the headphone output. i have the firebox selected as my default input and output in system preferences. oh yeah, i'm using a macbook with os x 10.4.11.

fairly confident everything's hooked up properly. i'm using the firebox to record with logic 8 and also just to listen to itunes through my krk rokit monitors. all audio comes out of both monitors and sounds excellent. i've had no problems recording in logic so far.

however, i can only get audio out of the right side of the firebox headphone output. i know both the headphones and the 1/8" to 1/4" adapter i'm using are good. the adapter is certainly stereo. when i plug the phones into my microkorg, both sides of the headphones work.

i thought it was a problem with my audio settings at first. i even read about a bug in the firebox's software mixer. but when i fool around with the headphone level knob, audio comes in and out of the left side of the headphones.

it seems like i may have a faulty firebox, but i'm not positive. this is unfortunate since i'm on a really tight schedule. i'm trying to finish vocals on an e.p. in the next couple of weeks.

i'm thinking of keeping the firebox and buying a small headphone amp/mixer.. would this work plugged into the line out on the back of my firebox? it'd be nice to have spots to plug up a few sets of headphones anyway....

anyone have experience with this sort of problem?

i'm really happy with the firebox otherwise. granted, it's only been a couple of days.

Hi Dent - I have the same mac as you and the same presonus firebox. I'm new to using it myself, but just a question: Do you have both your mac system preferences and garageband system preferences for output set to the firebox? Not sure if this makes a difference, but if you have garageband preferences set to something other than the firebox, it overrides the mac preferences. That's the only thing I can think of on my end. There is also a presonus technical support forum at www.presonus.com if you don't find the answers here.

No experience with Logic. No experience with Firebox. No experience with Macs. But just a suggestion, be sure the vocal track is MONO, not stereo.

Oh yeah, good point Chili. And Dent, in addition to that, try putting the monitor to "on" in garageband. I forgot that can make a difference too.
