Preferred brand of cables?

Putting politics aside (something hard for me to do,) those Fender California cables look SWEET! I love to color code things, having different color cables makes tracing a cable much easier if you have a nest of snakes!
ya and they have a lifetime guarantee
that is usually unheard of for such a cheap cable:)

I've been into color coding my home studio for a while now. It was inadvertant at first. The only cables they had in the length I needed was red. Next time they only had white. Now I've got red, white and blue color coding going on. Hey, I guess that does kinda tie back into politics!

I also have a black cable, which I have elected president of my cable collection. The white cable has been very supportive and I think that the next several years will bring cables of every color together in my studio.

Just realized something about the Fender Calif. Cables- applies to all clear cables- they are easy to recognize as shielded/ instrument cables, and thus not confused with speaker cables. I like vintage-type, cloth-covered instrument cables for the same reasons.

A quick check of color cables available thru Guitar Center showed me these things:

Musician's Gear brand have mixed reviews and no warranty;

Horizon brand have good reviews, lifetime manuf. warranty and are priced the same as Musician's gear. They are available in 5 neon colors;

Live wire are not actually colored cables, but have colored strain relief on the ends- they are pricier than the Horizons but do have a manuf. lifetime warranty;

Fender Calif. Cables are just a little pricier than the Horizons, have a lifetime Manuf. warranty, are available in 6 bright but not neon colors.

So, looks like the Horizons and Fender Cali's are the best bets.

I'm a fan of Horizon cable. That's what I would normally buy when I order from Musician's Friend.

I've been ordering through zZounds lately and their "house" brand is CBI. 10 year warranty. They use Belden cable, plus either Switchcraft, Neutrik, or G&H connectors. Great cable for the price!

I use their mic cables from recommendations from this site and I couldn't by happier. Better then anything monster could produce.

I think I'm sold on the EWI GBAD cables after reading the "Technical Description" of their guitar cable: "They are available in any color you want so long as it's black." :D

Being a longtime skeptic, I buy cables based on real-world specs: whether they have straight or right-angle ends, length, and so forth. I have NEVER heard a difference between cables in any situation, and I think paying more than $15 for a 12' guitar cord is nuts.

I debated this subject several years ago with a true believer. I challenged him to prove any of his assertions. In response he posted a link to a "white paper" that was, oddly enough, on view at the web site of one of the more egregious snake oil sellers. The guy apparently thought I'd be crushed -- but when I asked him to provide information NOT from a vendor, he disappeared off the forum.

There are great discussions around the internet, and electrical engineers have pretty much demolished every claim made for boutique cables. Skin effect is important? Not at audio frequencies. More bass presence? Hahahaha. Better stereo imaging? Oh, stop it, you're killing me! And don't get me started on cables with batteries (it's true).

The fact is, a single-conductor cable surrounded by dialectric and shielding is about as simple a circuit as you can make. The only way a cable won't transfer ALL of its signal at nearly the speed of light is to do something really stupid.

So buy cables with well-made, robust connections and joints, don't abuse them, and you'll be fine. I have cables that date back to...no, you won't believe I'm that old.
