Hi there,

Just wondering based only on their preamps, which do you prefer: The DMP3 or the Mackie VLZ Pro preamps?

I've got a mackie and am thinking about selling it and getting a DMP3 -- as I only need a microphone and guitar preamp and none of the bells and whistles of a full mixing board.

Thanks

According to the many posts I've read (I'm shopping for a preamp myself), if a DMP-3 really IS better, it wouldn't be a major step-up. There are pretty useful threads on the subject on the "The Rack" board. Look around for a thread called "Best preamp under 300$".

Also according to what I've read, you'd be better off saving a little more money to invest in the RNP or the Grace 101. Both preamps are apparently a huge step up from the range you mentionned.

Oh snap!

I should have posted this in the rack forum. I agree, the RNP and Grace 101 look sweet, but I'm trying to get the most bang for my buck. On a sidenote, does anywhere know where I can hear recordings of guitar/bass/vocal going through a DMP3 to an Audiophile 2496? Thanks

I'll make some in two weeks, if you haven't bought it by then. I'm too busy atm, but you can pm me in 2 weeks.

I have a vlz pro, a DMP-3 and several RNPs.
They are a step up in that order. The DMP is definately clearer and more 3 dimensional than the VLZs and pretty neutral as far as imparting a tonal "sound". It is also quieter and has more headroom.
The RNPs take it a step higher with even more headroom,a beefier mid range and a little "color" to the sound, that works particularly well with drums.

Hope that helps a little.

Tom

how bout the tampa. how does that compare to the dmp3 and the rnp in terms of quality and price?

how about putting this in the right forum? the rack or other equipment and reviews

The DMP3 is better than the VLZ's. And no disrespect to what you've read, but my EARS tell me that it's quite a bit better on many sources.
