Hi everyone,

I've been struggling with this problem for a while now. I'm hoping to order Digidesign's Digi001, but it only has 2 mic pres on it, but 8 of the 1/4" analogue inputs. I'm basically looking for a way to record from 6 mics simulataneously (for my drums) without buying a mixer, if possible.

First of all, is it possible to buy those $20 xlr to 1/4" impedence adapters and go from mic > adapter > analogue 1/4" in on the deck? I don't think this will work, but I'll throw it out there...

Secondly, if I need a preamp, can I get one cheaply that has 6 xlr mic pres, and 6 1/4" outs?

I hope someone can decomplicate my life...

Thanx a lot

Nick

I have the same system my friend and you need a mixer or stand alone mic pre's. A small Mackie or a Berringer with channel inserts that can be utilized as direct outs is the order of the day. The high to lo Z adapters won't cut it at all.

get get one of the mackie 1604 or the next one down with 10 pre amps or something.. or well maybe the one with 6 or 4 i cant remember.. the VLZ ones. they are good.

Thanx for your help guys! I will check them out.

Track Rat: was the Digi 001 everything you expected?

Doubtless its a nice piece of gear but I don't see where it smokes it.

Thanx guys, this is great!

checked out Layla, and it looks pretty slick too. Mackie pre looks very appealing...

The help is appreciated!

The Behringer 2642 sell for about $370 U.S. at 8th street and some other dealers. You can also get the 2004 (8 mic pres and 20 total inputs) for $280. You can get the 1604 (4 mic pres and 16 total inputs) for $189. These are all 4 buss mixers, also. The preamps are quiet.
