As if the quest for perfectly colored gain under $200 weren't complicated enough, Line 6 has upped the ante just before the holidays.

Both TonePort models include Line 6 GearBox(TM) modeling software, which provides a must-have collection of guitar and bass amp/cab models, stompbox and studio effects, and models of high-end studio microphone preamps.
from here

Time to throw out those dented old rusty boxes? :D

Yeah, hardware manufacturers are shaking...That LiquidChannel thing almost put DW Fearn out of business. ;)

the toneport is absolutly great. i just picked it up yesterday. I didnt relize my soundcard sucked so hard(soundblaster,LOL) till i used it. Its has so many diff. preamp and vocal settings, to much to even play with right now. Ill post a track to show the difference in quality.

The only bad part is the base model doesnt offer phantom power. WTF!

I have yet to find a decent sounding digital modeller, especially one from Line6. Sure they fill the gap and are great for demos but they just don't sound real for release quality material... kind of like they just skim the surface and leave all of the good stuff behind. I have a PODxt which I'm sure offers the same basic range of sounds but it is just sitting beside my rack now gathering dust. Can't beat a real amp for depth of sound. The other problem with the modellers is that the original recorded material is wet as hell by the time it is recorded making it difficult to tweak.
