Just got a new Tascam DP-32 recently. If anyone has some tips as to get the best sounds out of this thing i would love to hear it. With my previous set up I would Mic up my Guitar Amp and run the signal through a mixer that worked as a preamp and then straight into my recording devise. However, The Tascam DP-32 has pres built in i believe. Have any of you had experience with going straight from a MIC signal to the Tascam? Or is it usually recommended to go Mic > Pre > Tascam? I feel that i am getting kind of week sounds using my old methods. Affordable Preamp recommendations for recording an over driven tube amp?

The Tascam pres should be fine - what mic(s) are you using? When you say 'weak', do you mean the signals are low volume level? Recording in the -18 to -12 range is typical in the digital world.

ive got a set of sm57 for guitar amps. and then a set of samsungC01 for drums/ room mic. so you think mic signal directly into the tascam? no im getting plenty of volume out of it. Just want to make sure i am not missing a major component in my recording tech.

so mic directly to tascam recorder is standard practice?

Should be fine...you could always throw a bunch of outboard gear between (pres and such), but it's simply not necessary. Especially, if you could only afford cheap gear and you're not familiar with what it does. I did plenty of decent recordings with mics going straight into a TASCAM US-800.
