i am trying to decide between the alesis M1 powered monitors and the event PS5 powered monitors. the price is the same and they have similar features. anyone have a good reason for preferring one set over the other?

Yes. People on the Event design team that design their monitors used to work for Alesis. Others, or some of the same one's worked for JBL, URIE, Tannoy.

Event put's their emphasis on quality design, quality components, and less consideration to athsetics.

Also, Alesis never seems to get the response curve right in any of the monitors that I have heard from them. Often, the low mids are muffled.

I really don't think you need to consider "active powered monitors". The regular old non powered, passive Event 20/20's are a great sounding monitor. With an investment into a really good power amp, not only will you have a great monitor system, but you would also have an amp you could use to power other speakers for reference, and to use for live gigs.

thanks for your input....i'll probably go with the ps5s......don't wanna mess with a power amp...have no use for one.....thanks

i was in the same position last week and ended up with the yamaha nsp5's - mainly because i hated the m1-actives. i was surprised by this because i thought the monitor one's were great. the events were ok but the ps5's were nothing compared to the bigger ones. the yamahas are tiny compared to the competition and sound excellent. also, they have some eq tweaking switches so you can adjust depending on positioning. (i jammed mine into the corners so i had to compensate the bass. i hadn't even considered these monitors going into it but the sales guy in b&h in manhattan, uh, sold me. just my 2 cents.

i will sonus.....???.............the yamaha set does look nice thnmnt...but i'm probably gonna go with event, cause the dealer will take a trade in, yadda yadda

Event 20/20p powered monitors will wail over the PS5s. I have them and think they're great. Haven't had one problem with them and they sound phenomenal.
