Yes. People on the Event design team that design their monitors used to work for Alesis. Others, or some of the same one's worked for JBL, URIE, Tannoy.
Event put's their emphasis on quality design, quality components, and less consideration to athsetics.
Also, Alesis never seems to get the response curve right in any of the monitors that I have heard from them. Often, the low mids are muffled.
I really don't think you need to consider "active powered monitors". The regular old non powered, passive Event 20/20's are a great sounding monitor. With an investment into a really good power amp, not only will you have a great monitor system, but you would also have an amp you could use to power other speakers for reference, and to use for live gigs.
