Powered Mixer?

Hey.....

Getting ready to oreder the soundcard, finally. Recently totaled my car, so I had to wait for funds.

I got the Crate 600dp mixer/amp on the way. it has RCA in and out, looks like some kind of tape Mon loop.

The 2496 also has RCA on it.

what would be recommended as a signal chain, here?

guitar and mic > korg DI> crate > soundcard......this will only be 2 channels, though. left and right. how will this affect acid pro? the mixer has 6 inputs, if i use a mic and guitar at the same time, what will acid pro receive as a signal? maybe I'm confused?

looks pretty simple to me, both items are pretty basic. The signal will be pretty direct, so I'm assuming the signal should also be a bit cleaner than what I've got now. (which ain't much)

i would never use pa products for recording.
a yamaha mg mixer is only 90 bucks.

But failing that - set your inputs in Acid up and pan hard left and right. So plug your mic in channel one and pan hard left, set the track input in Acid to channel one/soundcard in L, and record.

ingoloid. just an idea. to think about.
for years i purchased all sorts of things for studios.
and dont get me wrong. the mg is one sweetie of a mixer.
but , and its a hell of a learning experience....
buy horowitaz and hill - art of electronics book or for free lots of mic pre schematics on the internet.
i build my own mic pres not so much to save money, but
the main advantage os i get back control over someone elses selection of components. i'm not saying - do it now. but its a great fun experience
to do diy. also , you will learn so much.
if you go to linear technology web site and download the pdf for LT1115
mic pre, this is the kind of front end you would see in the expensive studio
consoles. the mic pre schematic is around page 4. it costs about 20 bucks to build. believe me , if i could come up with a good soundcard schematic i would do that as well.
but unfortunately sound cards use custom vlsi type chips. tougher to do.

anybody who owns a studio imho should know some electronics.
that way - they will understand their equipment better.

All that electronics stuff ... I understand a lot of the theory but I'm damned if I can set about soldering me up some preamps!!!!

noisedude. patience man. heres a free trick for you.
save you a lot of soldering. radio shack have plug in proto boards.
so do digikey. you just push the ic's, transistors, caps, resistors
into the proto board. and link up components with plug in wires.
saves a bunch of soldering until you get your magic circuit right.
