Power conditioner

Hi all,

I just bought a monster cable power conditioner (power strip) at guitar center, for 71 bucks. I got it cuz my house just recently got hit by a surge caused by a nearby lightning strike (while I played electric guitar). Needless to say this caused a few fireworks in my house and blew out a few things, including some music equipment. I am, therefore, NOW protecting myself.

I also have always had a bit of hum in my system, caused, it would seem, by the wall wart for my delay pedal, among other things. After asking around I was told that the "monster cables" one was my best bet. I was looking between that and the two lowest end furman devices which were realtively priced. I also got a new AC adapter for my delay pedal. I got home and plugged everything in, but the damned thing is still causing hum in the system (though it all does seem to be a bit quieter and cleaner now). Please help, and let me know what you use and how well it has worked for you. I think I'm going back to GC to get an exchange on this thing.

I'm runing an MXR Dyna Comp, a Blues Driver, and Big Muff Pi, into the input channel of my Hot Rod Deville 212. I also have and Electric Misstress flanger, a Phase 90, and the DL4 delay modeler going through the effects loop. The smaller units are powered by the MXR DC brick, and the bigger ones are plugged right into the power strip. The amp and the brick are also plugged into the power strip.

You might want to try moving the audio cables as far from the wall wart power supplies as possible. I've had wall warts put a lot of ugly stuff into audio lines before, so it's worth checking.

Those power strips are virtually worthless as far as what would really be considered power conditioning. In fcat, they are not power conditioners at all, they are simply surge protectors with some EMFI filtering (in most cases). To get true power conditioning, where the power is taken into the unit and reshaped into a pure signal and then output to your gear, you have to spend *a lot* more money.

ok i'll try moving the cables like you you suggested. I'll post again on here tonight. in the meantime, please (anyone) let me know, from your experience, how the monster is supposed to stack up against those furmans (once again spoke to one more guy today who told me that the monster ones are supposed to be better).

think i got it

i moved the AC adapters around and routed the all the audio cables away form them. i think that's what it was. it's actually pretty amazing. i guess this thing really works, i have all those stomp boxes and my signal seems to be completely clean. I guess I would recommend it.

oh and just for the record, i am using mogami cable with neutrick connectors for the audio cables and live wires or mogami with neutrick for the little cables between the stomp boxes so if anyone's interested that's the setup I would recommend. thanks for the help.
