I tried that SIR convolution reverb thing once. It convoluted my brain into mush. I don't get what the big deal is or how it even works.

I don't get what the big deal is or how it even works.![]()
Lol you'd understand the big deal with convolution reverb if you knew how it works/sounds
Its basically giving you the sound of a real room that has been turned into a Impulse Response file and is ready to be added to your tracks. Meaning you can download some of the nicest studios rooms sound
it can also simulate a guitar cab which is handy for those pesky amp emulators
the difference between an impulse and a dsp verb is that the convo file gives you a REAL room, it doesnt try to simulate it, it IS it
I've been playing with my SIR convolution reverb, and I'm just not hearing what the big deal is. There's also a ton of latency. How do I get rid of that latency?
lol. Fuck this shit.
I only get the latency when using it as a send, but whatever. This things a pain in the ass.
Too bad. maybe you don't like the sound of real rooms? or just stand latency![]()
I like the sound of real rooms, but I'm not hearing the great benefit. I play hard rock and punk. Orchestral and cathedral-like reverbs aren't that necessary.
Anyway, I can use it as an insert just fine. I don't know why the latency is so bad as a send.
Anyone know how to fix this?
What about lead? Nothing says "I am the 200ft guitar god" like a huge amount of cathedral reverb on a lead guitar!I play hard rock and punk. Orchestral and cathedral-like reverbs aren't that necessary.
No man, it aint that kind of latency. Thanks though.hey mate
cant you get rid of the latency whilst recording by muting the track as you play?
thats what ive discovered i can do with Pro Tools,,
but dunno about other stuff.
up until then,it was fuckin MURDER,
and id to Feck about with the "PLAYBACK ENGINE" AND "BUFFER SIZE"
AND ALL THAT SHITE![]()

Sorry can't fix it unless its a matter of buffer size in PT (even then I'd have to connect up and figure it out)
No man, it aint that kind of latency. Thanks though.
I'm talking about using this SIR reverb plug-in as a send. The reverb is there, but it's very late. It almost sounds like a slap-back delay with reverb.
aw furfuxake,,,theres more then one kind?
jeeezzzuzzz

and if they don't hold anything out long enough to hear it settle down it just all sounds like shit.
.
Has anyone experienced this?
I can get a pretty nice dist guitar tone when playing single notes, but when I do chords the definition seems to disappear and it sounds messy and muddy.
Heres a small sample of what I mean.
http://www.lightningmp3.com/live/file.php?fid=8951
The single notes go up to 27 seconds which sounds good, then the guitars just fall apart.
Any ideas what to do to get less muddy sound when playing chords?
Cheers,
Eck
Aren't most of the impulses from hardware? So they would be a simulation of a simulation? And, even if they are from a real room, they are still a simulation, aren't they?
I'm not knocking SIR, but it's still not a REAL space.........
