Hey gang,

Been a while since I've been around these neck of the woods. Could I get you feedback on this mix? I feel like it's missing something or needs a couple of tweaks that I can't quite pinpoint. Maybe not... Anyways, as always, when I post I always make sure to comment on your works to show my appreciation.

nice job, lurker. i don't like this type of music usually, but i thought it was catchy, and the mix is really balanced. i can't offer any help on the mix b/c it sounds exactly right. the only thing that bugged me is the synths -- the staccato feel brings out their "fakeness" because of the long decay. it sounds like they might have a slightly long tail on them. i'd cut that shorter and go pure staccato/fake.

Things sounded OK. Synths/keys were nice.

The kick is pretty rumbly. So is the bass. I'd roll off some of the far low end.

I kept waiting for the song to do something, but it never really did.

Like the choppy synths I have going on, for example, starting at 0:57? I just want to make sure I'm thinking of the same synth(s) as you. I think you're actually saying to bring down the sustain and release and possibly not have them in as much reverb? Just checking. Thanks for the feedback man

I know what you're saying I tried to make the part where the bass kicks in be the "release" part that the song builds up to. Any suggestions on the arrangement? And I agree I may need to revisit the rumbly of the kick/bass a tad. Thanks for your feedback TripleM

To my ear, all the synths have too much sustain/decay on them (the intro synth and the one that comes in after that, mostly). But really, if that's what you're going for or that's what's specific to the genre, then you should keep it.

But this is the way I hear it: the drum and bass have a tight beat, and the synths having a long decay that kind of lags over that tight beat. So it gives it a drag and uneasy feeling. Maybe other people don't hear it that way, though, so get more feedback and see. Maybe try an alternative mix where you just pull back the sustain/decay time on the notes (I assume they are midi, so that should be an easy remix).

Oh I think I see what you're saying. Basically, as you said earlier, making them more stacato rather than drawn out. However, since they also have a bit of a slow attack maybe make the attack faster as well? I'm going to try this right now.

Thanks man

Yes exactly. I didn't notice the slow attack as much as the sustain and slow decay, but you're right the attack is on the slow side, too. Post the remix when you finish I'd be curious to hear it.

That kick in the opening and the breakdown could use more body. The synth bass was OTT for me, it pretty much takes over your mix. To be honest, the composition lacked those subtle elements and soundscape that keep me engaged with an instrumental electronica piece. I found myself losing interest halfway through.
