King of Bling
Hi. This tune is a collaboration that was born over at www.recordingproject.com. "Vestast" wrote and recorded the music. I wrote a lyric and recorded the vocals, and Ed Rei ("sonusman") filled it out with the electric guitars. It has been an enormously rewarding project, and I thought I'd post it here even though nobody here knows me anymore. :D Any mix comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

(Dave, hope you don't mind :D )

Nice filler harris.
Ive kept track of you.
Youre a bright and talented young man.

Aside from that, im a little upset...

Mr. Vestast has been holding out on us.
A fine song this is. And a fine production compliment to boot.
Top stuff.

You Bastard ! :D

Funny - I was going to ask you if we could post it here today.

This is by far the best mix so far btw. I haven't gotten tired of listening to it over and over again yet....

So just as a disclaimer. Chris is really responsible for bringing out the potential in this song. He wrote some amazing lyrics and melody line for the vocals, and he has spent a good part of his time recording them and mixing !

Thanks for this Chris. It was a TON of fun !

(sorry Xfinsterx. You know what they say. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then :) )

Hey XfinsterX - I'm old, lol...Old enough to know how to say "thank you very much" for taking the time to listen and comment. As for Dave's modesty, I know that it's genuine, but the truth is that everybody knows a good song is a pleasure to work with. Things tend to fall into place; less forced. It's easy, and vestast made it that way.

Chris-

What a cool mix of sounds, just what I like. I can't say anything bad about the mix, except I'm not quite hearing the really high end frequencies on the cymbals that I like to. That guitar solo (just now hearing it) is just over the top!:) sweet.

You know what though? I was just waiting for a huge vocal hook to come out and hit me in the face...but it never did. If the vocals took a journey into the upper registers almost at a scream level you would be looking at an extremely modern sounding hit sound. I like the song alot, but (it's just my opinion) if something like that would happen, it would grab onto me alot more. With the harmonies that remind me of newer pop-py Metallica, and the heavy guitars I want a higher register vocal track to jump somewhere in there and knock me out.

Good song, great collab!:)

And when did Ed start using a Pod;) jk.

That's probably a good idea. I retracked the vocal last night, and I basically copied what I'd done originally, which involved a lot of cutting and pasting :D. The last chorus could be a lot more powerful. Thanks for the listen and the input. Have a nice day.

Just remember, Vestast. Shamelessly bumping your own thread is frowned upon.

I just listened to it a couple times. I thought it was a cool song. The guitar solo was great!! What is that at the beginning of the solo? Is that a talk box? You've GOT to turn that up!

I really liked the vocal harmonies and I wanted to hear more of them. I think you should harmonize the whole second verse. I agree with Hard2Hear on the "approaching scream" thing, I think you should take that last chorus out with a bang. Maybe keep that vocal track and just add a high-energy harmony part on the last chorus. Anyway, I digged it!

Scottgman and Hard2Hear - Thanks for listening guys.

Like Chris said the input and feedback is always appreciated :)

Dave

You know how when a song really sucks you don't listen to it all the way through... Well...

NOT TODAY!!!!!!! THIS SONG IS GREAT!!!!!

I loved the mood it created. I love the melody of the chorus. And I thought about the vocal issue that was brought up by H2H before reading his post but, I would like to politely disagree with him on that. I thought it was a creative break from the norm. I often hate when I hear a song for the first time and I can tell you what's going to happen next. The screaming vocal was what I expected but, I was pleasantly surprised to hear the arrangement given. It all the more personified the idea of fading away.

I'm going to listen to it again!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Thanks chris-from-ky.

Those are really cool things to say.

Chris Harris is a talented MF, eh ?

Dave :)

Chris! what up?!

well, as usual, your stuff is well written and recorded. All i can do is look up to your talent as both songwriter and engineer. :p It always sounds so damn professional! I'm waiting for the day that I can actually say something like...um yeah, there's too much reverb, or it's kind of muddy... :D but i have a feeling that day will never come. you rock!
