dynamics- SM7, RE20, MD421. After the last couple of days with it, I have to add AKG D3800, which reminds me a lot of the MD421.
condensers- Oktava MK319, AKG C2000B, Shure SM82 (a weird mic), AT4033
For $400 used, you start to get into the likes of NTK, B.L.U.E. Baby bottle, and others.-Richie

Without hearing a voice in person, I'd go with a RE15 or RE16. Then with any $$ left over, get something like a Studio Projects condenser for variety.

Groove Tubes GT-55 has been very good to me. Same with the V69ME and SM7b.

I have a CAD M9 and a pair of ADK ST's. Both can be good for vocals. The ADK seems to work well on softer, lower male vocals, and the CAD does well with more aggressive vocals. The CAD has a lot of tubey-sounding sibilance. They're both in your price range. I also use the ST's for overhead drums micrphones.

I would go with the Shure KSM27.. I have a pair and they are excellent vocal mics plus you may use them for general recording tasks as well. :)

Haven't seen this one, yet, but its one of the routes I went.

Used BLUE Baby Bottle.
