Possible upgrade in future

Hi, I am a newbie to this forum and very much an amateur when it comes to home recording.
A dear friend who is extremely generous donated a Power PC with G4 plus a Digidesign 001 interface, I am using Protools LE 6.4. This has been a great set up to get my feet wet but I am finding the Power PC slow to copy files, and get interrupted while bouncing to disk etc. Note that this computer is only used for recording and is not connected to the internet.
My question is this...if I wanted to upgrade the CPU a Mac Mini makes sense to me, however I can't see how my Digi 001 interface will be able to work with the Mac Mini? Should I even try or just get a new interface when I upgrade? Is the Mac Mini a good unit to use only for recording?

Hi there,

I'd recommend doing a bit of research because all the info about OS X versions, PT versions, and interface driver versions is out there.
Avid's website is surprisingly good - hard to navigate but if you google the results are there.

I'm pretty sure the 001 is only supported up to a certain point so my recommendation would be to go with a new (2011 onwards) mac mini, protools 10/11/12, and a new interface.

The benefit there is that you'd no longer be tied to avid hardware so you can look at interfaces from tascam, and the likes.

Hope that's helpful.

Thanks, I think I'm using pretty dated equipment and software. It works but I'm sure the newer equipment would be faster and offer much more storage etc. I'll do the research.
Up to this point I can make the old system work but I know the day is coming... :-)

Yeah, that's cool.
If it's working, stick with it. If it's not, I'd upgrade everything. :)
