Possible to brickwall even though levels are way low..??

see my post below this thread and the attached sample... on my recording device...i was WAAAY below 0db...yet still got this crackle/snap sound...so y question is it possible to brickwall without hitting Odb...is there something special about choral voices together that wreaks havoc on gear??I am at a loss...anything above a whisper on the choral stuff....TONS of crackle...WTF???

I replied in your other thread. My guess is a gain staging problem---too high a preamp input level on the board (probably the top row of trim pots or near the top of the back side of the mixer), too low a main fader level.
