I wrote a hip hop/R&B style song for my 6th aniversary of being married. I usually write rock and metal tunes but aboutl 6 to 7 years ago I did tons of hip hop. I had turn tables and stuff, did open mic freestyle stuff... I'm not that good at freestyling anymore though... Also, I don't really listen to much hip hop now. Anyway, it's on my soundclick and it's called "Gone Away".

I'm not a rap fan, so I can't objectively tell you whether or not this is good, but I would offer one observation; if it's uplifting and positive, should it be in a minor key? Anyway, it's cleanly recorded and executed... Not my bag stylewise, but I appreciate the skills...

O yea... A little info behind the songs motivation... This my 2nd time this year being on the road for work... So I've been writing all my songs in a hotel. At years end, I will have spent 6 months away from my wife and kids...

What's RB? And what's a wanker? I'm from the Northeaster USA, so we generally don't use terms like that...

Incidentally, I like your metal approach better. I don't like metal either, but to my ear, you're better suited to it stylistically. The Poison is good. Needs a real drummer, for sure, but it's a good song...

Wiki "wanker", it's a Brit thing. :) It sucks that you have to spend that much time away.

Well, it is somewhat sad/uplifting... The main root note is actually C major.

I havn't done the straight up hip hop stuff for a long time... So I've been doing rock and metal singing for awhile now. My singing voice is also more suited for that kind of stuff naturally...

Haha I love this. I'm not an R n' B guy - but the bass sounds hot.

Actually pretty cool. The only comment I have is behind gone away some of the backup vox sounds like they intentionally go off key or out of phase of something. I'd recommend putting some extra keys or something to some tension there.

The singing and rapping is pretty cool. The music itself is really cool. :)

yea, the last word of each line is sort of purposely like that... away, today, say... I did that voice on purpose, it just seemed to fit the hook.

I would do some more intense singing but I don't want to be too loud in the hotel I'm in.

That's cool. I just thought to add some ding or hits or something to intensify the tension might be cool. But I dig the rapping and the music arrangement. :)

Pretty cool tune. Nice bass sound. Cool to see you do something unexpected...that's always fun...

Not bad for a white boy (I'm assuming) :D

Mix sounds good. To me it sounds like a Lincoln Park tune without the heavy guitars.

Recording this in a hotel room - that's pretty tough - you are to be commended for still recording regardless of surroundings.

The recording is good too, I like the arrangement...it has some musical melody combined with rapping lyrics...that's my favorite kind of hip-hop/rap.

The overall mix is good....I like the bass also...The keys are sweet.....the vocals are nice and clean and up-front the way I like them.

This is pretty far from metal but I think you've got it down very well.......

Also enjoy the positive lyrics and the story they tell without any cuss words :D

Nice Job!

I'm not a white boy.... I just play one on TV lol...

Yea, it does sort of have that Linkin Park feel... If I just added a couple of crunchy guitars it would probably sound alot more like them. It's also probably the way I did the rap flow...

Actually, everything on my soundclick was done in this freakin hotel room. I can't wait till Friday, I get to fly back for a whole week to celebrate Thanksgiving.. Then I have to come back down here for about 3 weeks. After that, I think I'm not going to be giong on these damn road jobs...

Cuss words just sound stupid most the time. Makes the singer/writer sound ignorant. I was listening to the latest Hed PE and it is terrible. Some of their other stuff didn't have as much curse words, but the new thing is just one after the other... Just sounds stupid.

I still feel with any music, cuss words are best limited. This way, when you blast out with a big bad cuss, it shows you really mean it. If you swear all the time, you should just come work in the shipyard with me lol...

Man that road work sucks, but it is very inspirational for lyrics....I wrote a couple of songs based on that feeling and they were easy to write. I'm not on the road at all now and I don't miss it...

Anyway - what are you using to record/play these great tunes in a hotel? And is this a long term road gig - is it a band gig or something else - just curious?

:D :) :D :)

I've been using my computer and the ol' Toneport UX2... I have my baritone guitar, my midi controller, and my RP8 monitors with me too.

It's for my job. I've been down here since September... I go back for good near the end of December, before Xmas. I've made a pretty hefty income this year because of road work, but I'm burnt out at this point. The only thing I'll go on the road for at this point would be if my band got a deal.

Not really my kinda music but, it was very well done and I kinda liked it.....good work!!

I don't know what some of the other guys are talking about I enjoyed it. More so than some of the other attempts at hip hop around these parts. :D

Well, hip hop is somewhat poetry.

I'm all about Colabs... I've only really done a couple internet colabs.
