portastudio with phantom power?

Is there a cassette based portastudio out there that has phantom power? I've got the digital DP-02CF, but I'd prefer to stick with cassette since that's what I started a project with. I've got a 424mkII, but it doesn't have phantom power for my AT2020 mic, which I upgraded to recently.

Tascam 488 mkII

The only one (I know of) that has phantom power is the Tascam 8 track cassette recorder 488 mkII It only has 2 xlr inputs and the phantom power switch is very small and on the backside of the unit. You flip the switch in the on position for mics that require it and Definitely flip it off for mics that don't require it.

Doh! It's too early in the morning. I wasn't even thinking about an external phantom power unit or pre-amp. Although, it would be a little more convenient if I didn't have to carry around another piece of equipment. I may have to check into a 488mkII. Thanks guys!

Definitely flip it off for mics that don't require it.

What's the reason for this? I've always heard that for dynamic mics, it doesn't matter whether the phantom power is on or off. I know I've left the phantom power on my DMP3 on for a while, and I've used 57s through it many times with no problem.

AA, yer right, its not a problem with most dynamic mics, but it'll toast ribbons, and could wfreak havoc with others. Why risk it? I'm in the habit of shutting it off when it is not needed.
