The Portastudio 05 should decent as a learning tool to get into the art of recording and can function a handy sketch pad device to get your ideas down quickly but, I wouldn't expect much from it in the way of true, high fidelity or as a substitute for a good reel to reel or digital work station.
Have fun with it and if the itch grows, consider stepping up to better gear.
