pops and clicks in Vegas 2!!!!!!

OK, heres the deal - Im recording acoustic guitar in Vegas Audio 2

I can do one track just fine, but the second one crackes and pops like rice crispies.

I haven't done any tweaks in Vegas, so maybe one of you kind sir's can lead me to the light

here is my setup:
p3 500mhz
win98se
audiophile 24/96
512 megs sdram
10 and 40 gig drives 7200 rpm

The replies to this post will be the determining factor in me keeping the faith or destroying my pc with a bat

Had a similar occurrence with my Delta 1010.

Turns out it was because I had S/PDIF set as the source in the Delta control panel when I was trying to record an analog source.

It does sound like some kind of clock issue.

What are you recording the guitar through?
Micpre?
Microphone?
Straight??????.
Could be the way you set the vegas up with your soundcard.
I had a problem with a cards drivers for example,
check your preferences...it makes a difference
MMe ?asio ? directsound?
Im not familiar with vegas ...im thinking settings.
