Popping in my recordings

I've tried everything now. All that's left is to dismantle my entire two-room setup until I locate the problem. :( I went into the 'proper' studio at uni today and my tracks did not sound out of place with the ones made down there ... which seriously sucks because they're all unusable!

That truly sucks. I just asked you in my thread if you got the problem solved. I guess I should have come in here first.
I'm sorry Nik, I know how that feels to have all that stuff laid down and not being able to use it. Happened to me when I was still doing things analog. Cassette tapes can be so touchy.
I hope you find it.

Whoops! Just replied in the other thread. My computer is being hated by me.

I just looked in the other one first again, but I remembered so I didn't reply. I hope you get this figured out soon. I can almost picture you taking the whole thing apart and redoing it all.

Sends a shiver down my spine

You can definitely hear the pops. This sounds like digital noise. I had this same exact problem - This was a while back..I was a standard PC sound card and using a 4 track as a mixer with cheap Magix software.
I had stuff running in the background though. Once I stopped all other process inculding disconnecting my ethernet card everything was fine.

I don't know how this helps other than to tell you my guess would be
NOT to dismantel anything --- it sounds (to my humble ears)
like the same problem I had which was internal - meaning my PC (or processes running on it) and not any of the cables - mics or levels for that matter.

Good luck and I hope this helps in some way.

Thanks man! I don't think it's mics or cables as such, but they run alongside my monitor and keyboard cables through from the next room. Thing is, when I'm playing my mp3s in Media Player the popping is random, which I can deal with. But when I record the pops get trapped for the life of the track ... which I can't.

Definitely sounds like some conflicting audio program starting up. What's going on in your system tray while you're running this? I've heard similar sounds when the pc starts looking for automatic updates.

it's definitely not cables, etc., as you said above. Keep after it, you'll get it.

Cheers mate, gonna have another good crack at it in a week or so now.
