This is a song I've been working on for far too long. I've been lurking around here for long enough as well, so here goes a post.

The lyrics are a tad odd, so I'll give the backstory. I did this impression one time for a friend and he found it funny so he kept asking me to do it for other people. Eventually I became annoyed and told him that he was Brian Epstein and I was the Beatles and that he should "go away".

With that said, enjoy (hopefully):

It's a wierd mix, I can hear everything clearly (apart from vox at points) which should be a good thing...but it seems if everything is too seperated if you get me, nothing flows. The the ride sticks out a lot also.

Guitars are too bassy, and vox could come up a tad. I don't what is is...i can't put my finger on it but something isn't right. LOL. I'm helpful.

But nice track, maybe its just me, i dunno.

I'm glad the vocals only need to come up a tad. Most of my previous work has the vocals buried since I don't like the sound of my own voice. And there was that incident way back in high school when I made some demos on a 4-track and the vocals were well out in front, but I was off pitch and off kilter. And I made some weird Korn-like whimpering noises at one point. There's nothing like shame to make one overly cautious.

Besides the ride being too loud, how do the drums sound? Right before I declared it finished, I spent a couple hours just making sure all the various crashes weren't too loud and garish.

I like the tune. Just sounds fun. Nothing too serious in the lyrics, so the music adds that real fun tone to it. I don't hear anything in particular wrong with the mix. Drummerdude brought up the drums, so that might be something to work on, but I've heard much worse. You might just try and lower the volume of the guitar tracks a couple of db, if you agree they are too bassy. See what happens.

Hi

Nice song. Very dry mix but that fits well the song. Being a big fan of the "Cars", I was expecting a big guitar solo a la "Elliot Easton" but I guess the keyboard solo was fine too.

/Jack Real.

More than one person has said it reminded them of the Cars. A few others have said Weezer (of course Ric Ocasek produced of few of their albums). I'm not much of a guitar solo guy, mainly because I'm not much of a guitar soloist. I'm hoping to work on that and have some lead guitar in my future stuff.

I'm not sure yet if the guitars are too bassy. I was worried the bass itself would be overpowering, since I EQ'd it less than subtly. But I did bring the guitars up 2 to 5 dB's in the chorus from where they were originally. I still have a bit of that grunge the-chorus-should-be-decidedly-louder-than-the-verse mentality in me.

Anyone have comments on the vocals, specifically singing technique, reverb level, or EQ?

Thanks for all the comments thus far. Much obliged.

this is a fun song, sounds fine to me... and the singing is on pitch thank god. I mean, yeah, you're not the greatest singer, but who cares (neither were the beatles)... just put more emotion in to it and I bet it'll be better.

moog is rentals-esque. ha. Vocals remind me of presidents of the united states of america actually....and i have no idea why.

Fantastic! The Rentals and Grandaddy were two of the bands that had the synth + guitar sound I was going for. The synth sounds in the verse and chorus are just stock Reason patches that were slightly tweaked. The stuff in the bridge used to be a Casio VL Pop sort of sound (much like in Trio's Da Da Da (from the Volkswagen ad)). But I made it more sustained and less of a 'pop' then threw distortion on it. Cause distortion makes everything better. I'm glad Supercreep loves the keys, since I've noticed that I enjoy a much larger variety of synth and/or electronic sounds than most folk. (Like the intro to 'Girl' on Beck's new album. I enjoy it.)

Thank god indeed that I'm on pitch. But as for more emotion, I sometimes think I'm a soulless monster and thus incapable of emotion.

I'm also overjoyed that my song is described as fun. The chorus is pleading for someone's suicide! Maybe I'm not the only soulless monster.

Very fun tune...sounds like the Cars and Talking Heads. Nice mix.
