Hi i'm new to this forum but i need some help with a song i'm recording at the moment and i thought that this would be a good place to look.

no matter what i do i keep getting a pop whenever i sing a 'B' or a 'P'

i have tried placing a stocking stretched over wire in front of the microphone to reduce the pop but it isn't working. also i have tried recording at a lower level but there is still a pop.

any ideas on what i can do to solve this problem?

i am using a rode NT-3 through a tascam 788 (not ideal i know but i have nothing else)

thanks

Hi Adam, what distance are you stood from the mic? You might be a little too close. And you might also want to invest in a good quality pop screen, i'm not sure if the old stocking over the coat hanger trick is as effective as a proper pop screen.

With those plosive sounds it's sometimes an idea to sing slightly to the side of the mic just for those parts so your not blasting directly into the diaphragm.

cool. i might try both ideas. i was sorta trying to avoid buying a pro pop screen but i might have to if i can't solve the problem.

thanks!

You not only need a pop filter, but for some mics especially prione to popping (Oktava MC012), I actually use 2 pop filters, about 3" apart.. You can get cheap ones, but I prefer the Stedman 101 steel pop filter. Also, if one layer of pantyhose doesn't do it, try 2 layers.-Richie
