we are all interested in seeing this sabith. dont let us down!!

I'm gonna catch it for this, but...

I spent 20 bucks on a pop filter and I never use it. If you're recording with a condensor mic you want to be at least a foot away, so moisture would not seem to be a concern. If you're not a serious p-popper and/or you can control it, why bother? BTW, does it have any NEGATIVE effect on vocal quality?

pop filter placement

I'm using the popper stopper, and I'm still getting pops. How should the pop filter be placed relative to mic, and how far away should the vocalist be from the pop filter. I've been having my vocalists singing straight at the mic, should have them sing at an angle to reduce pop?

I put my pop screen about 4 inches away from the mic and that seems to work okay. I think it works by diffracting and diffusing the "Pah", and it takes a few inches for the wave front to become properly diffused. Plus it probably significantly reduces the proximity effect at that distance too.

Cheers,
Mike.

Hey bd. You don't want to have to sound going into the mic at an angle unless you are trying to get a specific sound. If you look at the specs for mics, you will see that frequency response will drop off the further off axis you go. I would recommend the singer to be from 6 to 12 inches from the mic (condenser). As far as the pop filter goes, I am not sure since I don't own one yet. iqi616 suggestion of about 4 inches makes a lot of sense ot me.

Peace.
Joe
