Can anyone give me some suggestions on what I could use for some temporary "ghetto" bass traps? By "ghetto" I mean cheap (preferably household crap) and possibly quite ugly...

I am trying to get a feel for how much these evil standing waves are affecting my room, and didn't know if there was a generic way to A/B compare without plopping large amounts of money down...

I don't really want to have rolls of fiberglass insulation lying in every corner, that tends to be unhealthy if you live in the state of California... but I'm in Illinois, so maybe it's okay to breath fiberglass fibers here?... but seriously...

Thanx...

If you want to see how it works, go buy 8 rolls of fiberglass from home depot. (you can return them when you are done with the experiment) Stack them in the corners, see what they do. If you leave them wrapped you won't breath anything. If you have a noticeable positive effect, than it is worth your while to build some bass traps.

Don't suppose you could point me in the general direction of a "building bass-traps for idiots" guide/diagram?

The plastic over the fiberglass doesn't negate the effectiveness?
I thought it had something to do with the absorbtion? Or is it only the density?

Give us your room dimensions (including ceiling height). That'll help us to help you.

Futon

I have also read that a fabric covered futon makes an excellent kick bass drum trap.
