Ok And now my personal favorite the gansters, playas, drug dealers, murderers, and BLING BLINGERS!!! FANTASY ALL IF IT! there is no way they could have killed the people they say they killed and not get some sort of prosocution when they talk about it! and if you wear that much jewelry and drive that many cars through the hood well heh heh.... and unless you own porno you will never be surrounded with that many beutiful women and men BUT the young pulic doesn't know that yet so they worship these store bought performers and support them in every way they can to LEARN how to get where they got. they buy the cloths the shoes the albums posters tickets websites you name it
and the PERSONALLITY MANUFACTURS feed off this and keep it on the radio per OUR request
most of people who listen to what is HIP don't hear the music or the message they see the glamor and once it's played on the radio it becomes verified glamor
WE CAN"T GIVE IN do your thing and remember what your thing is was and what you want it to be when you sign you remember that when they say we want you to "CHANGE" this or get rid of that you obviously got thier ATTENTION by being YOU not THEM

What's the deal with multiple posts? Just because you run out of room in the text window, doesn't mean you have to stop typing. Anyway, great post(s). You are right on target.

BTW here's a few periods, feel free to use them ....................................................................................................................................................:p :D

What's with the peiods did i forget that many of em?

I hate it when I hear people say "I like it but I don't think the PRODUCERS will so I think I'll CHANGE It" then you get the PERSONALLITY MANUFACTURS sucking blood. So yes I have the type of isues that require serious medication when it comes to those vampires.(there see it a period).

I agree with many of the sentiments expressed here.
Music has became a consumable, like everything in our corporate society.
Buy it, use it up (or it breaks), then buy more of it.
It isn't suppose to have any "classic" longevity.
Hence mp3's. I know a guy who has a huge, I mean tens of thousands,
collection of them, and he has the nerve to call it his collection of albums.
Bullshit.

then I shouldn't invent TV.
then I shouldn't teach 'em how.
then I shouldn't invent Rock N' Roll.
then I shouldn't teach 'em how.
then I shouldn't invent MTV.
then I shouldn't teach 'em how.
then I shouldn't invent internet.
then I shouldn't teach 'em how.
then...

...but most of all, I should stop this BBS. We should make some music instead them...

#12. You can blame that for just about everything ;)

It seems to me that all artistic works are getting shallower and shallower. By that I mean people are more concerned with immediate entertainment value than lasting entertainment value. Therefore, the companies that provide this are filling the mindless void with mindless entertainment. I still think there is some good stuff out there, it’s just hard to find when the shit floats to the top of the bowl. :D It seems like “classics” just aren’t being made as often anymore.

I agree with this totally... Look at the Beatles, Elvis, and others of this stature. They still out sell anything out today yet the music that is being sold today will never be selling a year from now.

Oh yea another thing is there is almost no band loyalty like there used to be..

So, other than the above reasons, the music business is in pretty good shape! :D

You know, if we'd all just turn our backs on the music conglomerates and start releasing our own stuff, we'd raise the level of artistry and probably make more money with our music too.

Can you imagine if people started turning down record deals?! That would be so good! "No, I'm sorry. Tell Warner Brothers we aren't interested in their lame deal."

I know, I'm a damn idealist. Just shoot me...

that is exactly what needs to be done tell em they work for you not the other way arround and maybe we can work together.

i blame everyone including the dj's and musicians.

if everyone had integrity, this wouldn't be an issue.

but that's not realistic. when money is on the table, izzy (that's me) will give consideration to selling out for profit. it is means putting a BMW in the driveway of a beautiful home in woodmore, i'm gonna think about it.

everyone involved other than the consumer is thinking the same thing. how can i get paid.

even the musicians put their more creative, introspective thoughts, lyrics, and melodies on the shelf because it might not sell.

married with children was on fox for 11 years. many positive shows with deep messages came and went. i watched MWC. i don't want to think when i get home from work. i just want to chill.

most artist make chill music. you don't have to think to listen to it, and the lyricist is no more than another instrument that i'm use to hearing. there might be 1 or 2 songs on the 10-12 track CD that actually contain a message.

i was listening to a chemical brothers CD the other day and didn't miss the lyrics at all.

Whoa cross,
I grew up in "Woodmore"......down around Featherstone.

C'mon...

What's really bizarre is how this topic has never gone away, and how people always think everything on the radio is crap.

In the fifties? Rock and Roll's bastardization of Rhythm and Blues and/or Jazz? sucked.

In the sixties? Steve and Edie? sucked.

In the seventies? disco sucks.

A-Circuit Hair bands playing Loverboy covers and taking jobs away from real muscicians who wanted to revive that great music from the ?0s in the eighties? They were crap.

Then the Euro techno dribble. Tainted Love? crap.

Blah, blah, blah. Maybe a better question to ask is who is responsible for deciding that all this stuff is crap? (use the same categories above, if you like).

I'm not defending any particular flavour of crap, by the way. The amount and variety of music available today is both staggering and overwhelming. The little chunk of it that makes it to the radio should hardly stand as representative of the whole. Everybody is sincere about their music, from Neil Diamond to Randy Neuman to Page and Plant to Ice-T to The White Stripes to Eminem to Avril Lavigne to whoever the hell from whatever "pure" garage they record. Do you have a choice over what you hear on the radio? Yes. Over what they play? no. Is there a forum for everybody? no. Are there enough airwaves for everybody? yes. So who controls distribution? There's your answer.

Who's responsible for the crap food you get at McDonald's and Starbucks? Not sure, but it might as well be the same question (or at least it has much to do with food as questions about radio have to do with music).

What has this, or Elvis, for that matter, got to do with songwriting I wonder.

Its all image now. Ever since MTV came along, theres been bimbos like the spice girls selling lap dances with music behind them to the music world. Even without MTV, if the average joe think a band is "cool", he'll go out and buy their CD. Hip hop is TOTALLY image based. Funny how you never hear nelly on the radio, but always see his stupid videos on MTV and MUCH music and shit. Back in the old days, it was about tallent. Everyone who became a star started out in a pub or a bar or something and became the best musician out of their competition and moved up in the ranks with the big dogs. Back in the 80's album covers used to be dynamic and artist, full of cool logos and designs. Now its usually a picture of the band, showing how utterly sexy or cool they are. I say its the shallow minded kids... kids are suckers for image. Its sickening really.

logic?

I'm not sure I understand your logic. The "crap" you're talking about "isn't even on the radio," so somebody's responsible for it being on the radio? I'm not sure how image relates to radio exactly, but to suggest that anybody on the radio or on TV has no talent is ridiculous. Just because they're nice looking doesn't necessarily mean they have no talent, first of all; second, try to get there without talent.

Harvey Gerst says some interesting things about how similar we all really are to the spice girls in an article posted at his website.

There must be a station that plays hip hop in Calgary and elsewhere; if there isn't, maybe that's a whole other topic. Condemning a whole genre of music seems a bit over the top, don't you think?

Sorry to say this, but music has always been image. Ever heard of the Beatles? Yeah... they made movies about themselves... all image.

Ever heard of Monkees... yeah, they pretended to be the Beatles and they were on TV... that was back in the day.

Wanna hear about something that was way back in the day? Franz Liszt (1850's?) used to wear a green glove when he gave piano concerts, at the end of the concert he would throw the glove out into the crowd of swooning teenage girls. Damn kids, they're all about image.

So, before you start sounding like a curmudgeon ("Back in my day, we used to go to concerts in blindfolds...") consider that this has been going on for at least 150 years, probably more like 10,000... it is part and parcel with music.

Music evokes a reaction in us, and so, we tend to attach our values and fantasies to the people who make music... even music makers who aren't known for selling an image attain almost god-like status because we worship their talent.

Anyway, I say we all turn off the radio, and start going out to clubs, bars, coffee shops, elementary schools, and listen. Start mailing CD's and tapes to random people, or each other. Stop looking for the record contract, and look for how you can make and listen to good music. Record people on dusty backroads out of the back of your truck.

The only way you will escape radio is by creating your own musical culture.

Two words: Clear..............Channel.

One company: Disney.

Nuff said.

Sounds like a good idea baniak. Music Videos have taken the music business on a collision course with itself. Unless you're musically illiterate, you don't buy the hype. That leaves you with very few choices.
