I think they were in the invasion of the body
snatchers? No seriously, I dont know, but I
think they are a preamp like the tech21 sans
amp for guitars. I am sure you and I will have the answer soon.

GET A POD! Even if you don't know what it is. They're invaluable for tracking, and come in handy when you've got to get your amp fixed (run it through your stereo).

The POD is an amp modeler. It makes a guitar signal sound as if it's already been through one of 16 or 32 popular amplifiers. And all the settings are tweakable.

Remember, the POD does this to the signal. What your amp does to that signal may change the sound a bit (but you'll still appreciate the different crunches, cleans, reverbs, choruses, etc...)

Convenience. POD=good. Amp noise, micing hassles=bad. Maybe I'm just lazy, but I'm even using it for my bass now and the cool thing about it is it already has a compressor on it, so that's another connection I dont have to make. For guitar, yeah there are some songs that I love the way my amp sounded on. But, piddle with it and you can get almost any sound you want. There are a lot of plusses to these PODs.
