pod xt live causing audio problems in sonar

Hi Gang,

I just got a Line 6 Pod XT Live for my birthday. I am trying to use it to record audio directly into Sonar using the USB cable. I have the latest drivers and it works fine with the Line 6 Guitar Port software.

In Sonar, using WDM drivers, all works well if I try to record. The problem is if I try to use input echo to monitor the sound in real time. All I hear is a really distorted signal. The audio is outputting through an M-Audio Audiophile 2496 soundcard to my mixer, then to headphones or monitors as the case may be.

Note the recorded POD XT signal, played back, is not distorted. The distortion only comes with the input echo.

Could this be a driver problem? I tried increasing the buffer size but it didn't work. An alternative solution is to just run the line out of the Pod XT Live to my mixer, and monitor in real time that way (also avoiding any latency), but I would like to try it working this way if possible.

The way you are doing it seems unnessesarily complicated. Just run it through your mixer. Simple = better.

I have no problem with monitoring through the mixer, but I don't want to record through the mixer--extra digital->analog then analog->digital conversion for no reason.

I am just curious why I get all the distortion with input echo, when there is no distortion on just recording.

Maybe try playing with your sound card monitor mix out puts. I suspect there is something amiss in that area. I think maybe you have to monitor through your mixer even though you are recording through the USB cable.

The difference between using the PODxt line out -> 2496 Line in is imperceptible from the all digital USB method, as far regular people's hearing goes. This was discussed in the Line6 forums at one point a while back.

Try using the XT line outs and ASIO instead of WMD. Super low latency...Your input monitoring troubles will be over :)

Of course if you want to go all digital I can understand, I tried the USB route myself but it proved to be too troublesome.

OK that's good to know.

WMD--Weapons of mass destruction? Seriously though, I tried using ASIO instead of WDM and I couldn't see the Audiophile and the Pod XT live at the same time.

WMD :o

That's true, in ASIO it's either the 2496 or POD,but if you do decide to switch to regular Line in recording you won't need the PODxt in your SONOR drivers window.

If you already know this just ignore the following :D Here's what I do.

I plug in my POD in Mono mode (Left out) into the 2496 (Left in) In SONOR open an audio track and select IN - Left M-Audio Delta ...
Input monitoring is enabled for the 2496 analog ins. I only use the USB for online updating.

Well, like I said I was able to get the USB recording working OK. I think I will just run the line out of the pod xt live to my mixer, for monitoring only. That way I am simulataneously recording the USB signal and monitoring line out signal. Should work.

I would agree that it's easiest to just use the mixer for monitoring.

I was actually really surprised to see this, but the PODxt can act not only as an input (when hooked up through USB) but as an output as well! I sort of stumbled upon this. Anyway, if you are doing some headphone monitoring while recording, you can plug the phones into the POD and get the whole mix coming out of them - not just the guitar track being recorded. You may need to redirect the output of the Main bus to the POD output (or maybe that happens automatically... I forget now. As you noticed, the POD sort of replaces the AP2496 when plugged in via USB, so it may have just happened.) I haven't used that feature much but thought it was pretty cool at the time I discovered it.

:)
