Pod with non-tube amp?

I want to use the pod for recording of course, but maybe even live. I have a Crate Excalibur 90Watt amp, and it's not exactly the loudest head I've ever heard, in fact it can be down right quiet at some points. It has no tubes, and I was wondering if the pod would lack punch live if I used it. Should I buy a new head? I don't want to just add a power amp to the pod, cause I still want to have the option of using a real amp. AHHHHHHHH my head will explode in t-.......

I just got back from a practice with my band, I use a pod through a Fender Princeton 112+(Yup its solidstate) I usualy run into the poweramp input but it works well through the regular input too. its only 65 watts but its loud give the head another chance and try adjusting volume in various combos between anmp preamp pod master volume and chanel volume.....

A 35 watt tube head would be almost twice as lound as your 90 watt solid state I had a Marshall solid state for a while that was pretty nice. A little compression might allow you to mkae the amp "feel" a little louder- which I'm sure the Pod has. (don't know though cause I don't have one and probably never will.)

Hey... I use the POD through my Crate Acoustic amp (60 Watts-Solid State). Its sounds SUPERB!!What you are looking for in reproducing the POD's sound is a good "clean" amp. Solid State amps are "clean"... tubes add flavor or color to the sound. So you are headed in the right direction. As for power... do what you can.
I hook my POD (left out) into a direct box which sends my signal to the PA system and then into my amp for monitoring. Couldn't be happier with the results.

You might look into a Line6 amp! Kind of a POD and a solid state amp all in one. I'm looking into something like that. I can't see spending $300 on a POD when I also need a good combo amp. (yes, I actually like recording with microphones

I was told by a salesman that I can do everything with certain models of Line6 amps (starting at $700) that would be possible with a POD alone (as far as recording direct goes). Not sure I believe him...you might check their website.

Thanks for the input, I think I'm gonna sell my Crate anyway cause I don't like it much, and purchase a Fender Roc Pro 1000 Head. Any comments on this head?

Slack: only with a Flextone II, the normal Flextone doesn't have the same speaker emulation (the normal Flextone speaker emulation seems to be a studip low-pass filter) and you don't have as many amp models. Go with the Flextone II
(or go with the real amp if you're looking for a particular sound, don't make the same mistake as me)
