Pod Pro vs. Podxt

I am interested in the Pods solely for recording purposes, and am looking for the most commercial, radio-friendly, cd-quality tones I can get. I would definately go for the Podxt Pro, but I just can't afford it at the moment. I can afford an original Pod Pro or I can get the non-rackmount PodXt. Which would I be better off with?

Standard POD xt. you'll find when using it in other peoples studios/live etc it is much easier than lugging a rack around. POD's are the best of the amp modellers by far.

im the only person that seems to be able to get good tones from my pod - everyone else finds it extremely difficult to get tones they like when using my pod.

i have a podXT and you DEFINITELY need to have it connected to your computer w/ USB and use the Line 6 Edit program in order to make your patches. it would be ridiculously hard to fiddle with things without having the line6 edit program even though it is possible.

but like i said, you need to learn its little quirks and youll start getting good tones very fast even though its intimidating at first

I disagree with nddhc, it's quite possible to tweak tones on the Pod, in fact it's very easy, and in some ways easier than having to use a mouse. nddhc is entitled to his opinion but it's not a fact

Sound wise I think the two units are basically the same. You need to decide if SPDIF is important. The XT is usually recorded via the USB connection allowing for reamping etc. so SPDIF should not be a factor.

I would definitely go with the XT value for money, the Pro doesn't offer anything that a home user really needs - all in my opinion of course.

the xt is a ridiculous improvement over the others. prime example would be the jcm800 model...bass doesn't roll in unless crank the master volume...just like the real amp. the xt carries a lot more of the amps real characteristics than the pro. as far as the regular vs. the pro...tone wise is the same. you might want to see if the pro has balanced outputs or something...and obviously the spdif...but when i've used them...not noisey units anyhow.
