a POD DOES NOT stand a chance against my Boogie.

this is SO SO true. Soon I think people are going to get over the marketing hype and realize how lame those things are.

i almost bought the quad at one time, but the deal fell through. And currently i don't own any mesa amp, i'm a student and have no money to spare. well not enough for mesa gear anyway. i own the dsl 100... i think it's great, definately when considering the price...

anyway, i 've been looking for a markIV but as i live in europe they are simply unaffordable for me, and for the money i have to spend on the mark i can get TWO (yes two...) Diezel VH-4's.

fuck the dollar!!!

i'm going to add a fender bassman for more bass soon, as the marshall isgreat but anything lower then D-E is mud on that thing... and although i donot like basdhing the pod( everyone alse does it already) i can truly say i hear the difference, no matter what volume. it's just that distortion was never ment to sound sooo good, the pod is just like to nice... it needs to squeek and roar unexpectedly at times, that is what great distortion tone is all about IMHO

The DSL kicks ass. It has that Marshall tone that IMHO is jujst as good as a Boogie. In fact, the dilemma I'm having is deciding between a DSL and a Rectifier. Two different tones, but both awesome. Each has its own character that the other can't reproduce.

The ultimate rig would be a DSL or TSL, a TriAxis or Rectifier, and a Bassman.

Also, you could check eBay for a Quad. They sometimes have great prices. There's only one there now:
http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1492790698

The reserve isn't met at $337. However, you can often find one for around $350.

Eh. Student status does strain the pocketbook. Yet, you'll get no sympathy from me. Now I can afford better amps, but I don't have as much time to play them as when I was I student. :( I'd rather have one decent amp and awesome technique than have an arsinal of 'em to mask mediocre playing. ;) I used to be able to spend 6 hours a day playing. Now I limit it to 3. :D

the name's guhlenn, greetz is like greetings but a little more "popular"

anyway,

the dsl really is great, i bought it as a cheaper rectifier , but after some time fiddling with it i liked it better. plus the rectifier tone is really to hip at the time, you used to stand out of the crowd when playing metal with a rectifier, now every dipshit who can hit a powerchord has one it seems.

oh and about a perfect setup ; i'd like an orange overdrive with a 15" speaker combined with the marshall, and the bassman for clean sounds. and then i would have a soldano , engl, mesa mark I to IV, VHT ...:D ok give em all!!!

GIVE EM ALL TO ME!!!

NOW!!!

OR YÁLL BE REALLY SORRY!!!

you can bring all your amplifiers to me , get in touch at guhlenn@hotmail.com and we'll discuss when i'm able to receive the amps, as there will be sooo many, you'll have to be patient as the whole world will be hurling there amps to me!!!

okok you're right, i should work on my technique first...:D :D :D

anyway all those amps wouldn't fit in my room:( as it 's only 14 square meters... plus my roommates wouldn't appreciate 100 watt stacks in my room... hehehe...

on a serious note; know where to get older orange amps? been looking some time now but haven't found any...

greet(ing)z

guhlenn;)

Which is not to say that it is more important to stand out by the rig you play than it is to stand out by your playing ability.

Btw, if you get too many amps than you can fit in your room, you can forward the extras to me (I'm a nice guy like that).

shit i was almost starting to panic because of the huge load of amps in front of my room. lucky enough that you are willing to take some ... phew!

Your comment about playing ability is valid, however, i think your sound is as much a part of your style as your technique... both are equally important i think... and i accepted the fact i'm not going to be malmsteen a long time ago, besides my technique will improve anyway, but my sound needs plain hard work (to earn cash... )

thankz ;) guhlenn

soooo. there r a couple of reply's i'm chewing on....sometimes i wonder,,,,"maybe i'm not typing complete sentences" maybe eh........i've had 23 diferent amp setups, loved most of them, including the mesa4,,,,,,but i get bored real easy i guess,,,,through all the lasts 20 years of guitar playing, i have usually played in cover bands covering music ranging from black sabbath to deep purple, to rush, to van halen, to yngwie malmsteen, to robin trower(day of the eagle) then to all the slock tunes one would play in everyone of those small town bars across british columbia,,,,trust me, i've played them all,,,,,,,,i've used gear that sucks when trying to get a good mix, (usually when the stage guitar sound was too complex) and then i've also had sounddudes dial me in a great frontend tone (usually because the stage guitar setup was simple),,,,,,,either way, i am thankful for the posts, i have a real gut feeling that the pod is good for a recordinmg purpose, but even then, i'd probably try to get rid of it quickly,, one thing i do know, is how to get a good tone, so i'm not really looking for feedback on that, i just wanted some opinions on the pod pro verses the tri-axis,,,,,,see, i live in the mountains of b.c.,,,,ran from the city i guess,,,,,i've never had the pod pro or the tri-axis, got itchy ears again, and need to hear someone's experience with either, someone who can compare the 2 would be even better.....some good reply's though, thanx.

Yo bro its joe. One question when did you ever play Day Of The Eagle? Didn't I show you that ? Lol.. Anyways what about that old Uni you were lookin into? let me know.. Chow Gag

Yo its me again. UMMM ... Are you planning on playing any huge venues in the near future where you can actually play past one on your rig ?Maybe a Pod with the optional pod stand will be suffice, you can tweak the individual settings no...? Voila no baffles needed for a stack of amps . I'm looking for a very small wattage amp that will break up really nice when cranked and put it thru my marshall cab to round it off . That way I can get those tones without being so loud any more Anyway talk to you soon( oh yeah I seem to use the rectified Pod sound alot I mean alot) Cheers Gag

lol joe. (gag) well where in the heck are those big gigs anyways,,,,lets see,,,,day of the eagle......nope i learned it when jamming with a singer (some u2 dude), but as tried and true as u are, i think u said dave dave dave,,,,yur missing that thing!!! so i said "hey MR JOE GROOVY,,,,,just because your MR HENDRIX< MARINO<TROWER GUITAR IN YOUR FACE NASTY GUITAR GOD,,,,,,,doesn't mean i can't put my own vibe into it, lol" . i think that's how it went as we both had guitars in our hands and smiles on our faces lol.,,,,,,,anyways, so, i went to kamloops and tried out the pod pro, well i loved it but yes it was like too smooth, and yes it didn't have that thing that a tube pre-amp does, but i thought that it rocked for the purpose, now if i can go try out the tri-axis i'd have an opinion on this original post.....but yes gag, i think that a small tube amp with the right effects through it, with a nice mike would also do the trick, yeah it would be nice to not have to lean a rack cover across the old guitar cab eh joe....maybe i should get a good little tube amp (30 watts would be good) and drill a hole in the bottom and put it on a tri-pod so it's up close to my head when playing live, might be a solution eh joe,,,awww yes and the sounddudes would love the low stage volume,,,,,,too much food for thought, i need a coffee now, gotta fly. peace

there is no comparison

I own both things Mesa and pod. the guitar amp is a thing unto itself...while pod is a million things potentially. the mean reason for owning a pod is that its the best sounding thing on the market for what it is..which is a box to plug into a mixer and get some reasonable guitar tones...theres a window of about 4 hours in which i can use the mesa amp here without causing a riot .....I once took the pod to a paying gig and the thing just croaked.......i suppose i could spend almost as much time as I did trying to successfully use the RP1....10 live, setting up presets et al ad infinitum......tihs dawned on me when the other guitar player used one of these boxes at a live gig and I could honestly hear what it sounded it like.......hard to describe but it sounded once removed from really playing....the magic of electric guitar comes from the interplay between the guitar, the amp, and the guitarist and good guitar players can sound good on almost anything..................that my 2 cents

Buy the Mesa boogie, had the pod pro to me it sounds artificial.

yeah the mesa sounds like the better option for tone, but it would be nice to have both setups like kennedy connor,,,guess that will be my goal, take care everyone and merry christmas
