So... for a small home setup... does a POD XT Pro compare to the cost of a good amp, good mike and good expertise in mike positioning ??? I don't really wanna be a sound engineer just get a decent guitar sound down ???

Thinking of getting the Rack pod you see... £400 in the UK..... interested in how the amp/mike outlay evens out against the price of the rack - remembering that i'd still need to splash out on a multi effect as well as amp/mike

Cheers guys...

If that’s what you’re after a POD would definetly be worth its value. You can certainly record decent guitar sounds with it. In fact in many cases you can’t even tell the difference between a miked amp or an amp modeller IMHO.

You might also want to check out the V-amp 2, which is considered to be the (much!) cheaper version of the POD. Some would argue it is even better. The V-amp also comes in a rack model.

Is it my imagination or is there a slight delay - like a few microseconds - between hitting a string and the string sounding when using a POD?

That is most likely "latency". I think thats how you spell it.

You record on a computer right? Thats probably it.

No. This is just into a mixer along with a drum machine. It's probably just my imagination.

no latency

i've been using mine now for about 6 months (PODXT)....

if anything, my boogie maxed out, has more latency from the tube sag!

pod or mic an amp?

well, both!

micing an amp, is always going to be the better way to go, because so much of the MOJO of the music comes from the intensity of the sound level and the interaction between the guitar strings and wood and speakers and room.

anyone, who's any good at all, should know this, inherently.

now, what i've found is, the pod may not feel like the real thing, but what goes down on the recorder is real damn close, so since i don't have a fender, or a hiwatt, or a matchless, or a vox....
and if i want those basic sounds... or something close to it...

there's nothing faster, and easier, to get where i want to go than using a POD.

here's some tunes to listen to , that are 100% pod......

"Thief"

"Where i Want to Go"

"funk-a-fied"

I use my V-AMP2 most of the time and I get phenominal tones out of it but I work for em by tweaking. I have miced my Peavey Prowler all tube Combo when I can. (I live in an apartment) I have used the Balanced DI Out on my new Behringer Vintager GM110 Analog Modeling Amp with great results.

It's all good, man! :)
