OK, I've never used a POD before. Most of the time I mic a guitar. Sometimes a plug a guitar or bass (or guitar multi effects) directly into the borad and then adjust the trim until I get a good level. How does a POD sound different than plugging right in and setting the trim? If it doesn't sound different, why buy one?

Well, it contains loads of distortions and some filters and delay and reverbs and stuff. Thats nice.

Although my opinion on the speaker emulation is that it just makes no difference. I still think pods sound like lined guitars. But not everybody agrees.

Thanks. I didn't know it had any signal processors built in. I thought it was just a plain old direct box. Now I guess my question is, why buy a plain direct box?

A direct box is much, much, much, much, much cheaper. Thats why. :)

But I'd buy a preamp instead of a directbox. It's not that much more expensive (2-3 times the price of a direct box) and also works for recording microphones. All modern preamps do the impedance matching a direct box does.

i dont like pod at all. i use the pod pro for guide tracks, cus it's nicer to listen to, but yeah, it still sounds, hmm, fake to me.
