Pod boxes: have i got this right? : they plug into the computer, you plug your guitar into the Pod, the pod acts like an amp allowing you to record guitar direct into the PC (cubase or something.) Is this how they work? If so, can you chain FX Pedals between the guitar and the POD like you would do with an amp.

Yes you can, but the pods have some effects already built in. You would probably want more - you should be able to put either the pod or the effects box(s) first since they should be at similar levels - in some cases you won't notice a difference which is first, and other times it makes a BIG difference. Experiment and see which way sounds best to you.

I am just finishing up a band that recorded some guitar tracks with the Line6 POD and it's really nice. however they did mostly like useing their combo amps . . . which were fairly nice. . . can't exactly remember what they were.

Any way. . . with a POD spend a few days messing with tones and when you record a track. . . change guitar or pickups and record another track of the exact same thing. Pan them hard left and right and the one that you like the best get at the desired volume and use the other s volume to modify the panning. . . it sounds really thick (with good tone)

. . . and you of course need to have a good recording soundcard as with everything.

You sure can. The built in effects of the POD aren't the greatest so I usually dial in a nice amp distortion first and then start adding pedals. I especially like the Tubescreamer in front of the cleaner models.
